i have a audiobahn amp and it has a power and protection light on the back. the protection light is lit up and power is not. so my subs are not working. the manual says if the protection light is on then the problem is either input over load or a short circuit. how do i tell if either of these are the problem? i checked with a light and two wires to see if all the wires have power and all do, so now i am stuck. please help

check to see what OHM rating your subs are. Then check to see which OHMs your amp is capable of. If it is not wired correctly, the wires coming from your amp to your subs, then you are probably overloading your amp causing it to run hot. Short circuit means you have a short to ground. Check your power wire going to the amp to make sure it is not pinched or touching any form of metal. If everything checks out it's an internal problem and your amp is most likely done.

what model number amp and subs do you have. Are the subs 4ohm DVC or SVC? Low ohm will give send your amp into protect. Doesnt sound like a blown fuse since your protect light is on. How many volts does your amp see? If it gets too low then it may also shut down for low current.

also if the ground is not good the protect light will come on. and like the other guy said it might be pinched some where. when you turn the car on the next time check and see if it turns green first. if it does it is a minor wiring problem.

the ligt is blue and the model number is a400t i think.... the ground is ok and i think all the wiring is good. i guess my amp is done. i was told by the seller at frys that this was a good amp to push my two JL 12 w0s, but i guess not. my ground is good and no pinch of the wiring. o well thanks for all the help

haha...just choose a better setup next time...:goodjob: hel i got my shit at the flea market... 2 comp 12" MA Audio subs, cutoms built box, with a Performance Technique 800 watt amp, and some of brand wire kit...that shit hard as fuck 170 DB..and i tryed to blow the subs by turning up the bass boost on my cd player and amp al the way and turning the volume all the way up and popping the trunk, and letting it play for about 3 hours with a bass tester cd and they still hit around 160 and that was after a years use before trying to blow them.....
