U.S. school bans tag
Oct. 18, 2006. 01:34 PM
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.
Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.
While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous.
Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Spokane, Wash., also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.
"I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid.''
Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.
Thats what you get for wanting to sue for everything. Now your kids go on recess and stand in a fucking circle. Soon they will ban talking for fear of slander.

a couple of years ago my bro was going to Kennesaw Mtn HS. while there in gym class they banned "Dodgeball". their reason was it picked on the fat kids. well, the gym teachers didn't think this was such a good idea. so ya know what they did?
they stopped playing dodgeball. instead they played.... "AGILITY-BALL"! :lmfao: :lmfao: :lmfao: it taught the kids agility and speed by avoiding big, round, rubber projectiles. and since the kids probally wern't ready for a pithing machine and the budget wouldn't allow it. they used the only pratical means avaiable. Other kids.... :lmfao: :lmfao: :lmfao: :lmfao:
I thought that was great. so now more tag. lets have agility drills.

Sometimes I wish I had gone to law school and worked reeeeeally hard on my way to be a judge just so one day I could sit in my big chair and say "get your bullshit out of my courtroom and stop fucking wasting my time!"
Great... I'm going to have to teach my own kids how to play since all the other kids are going to totally suck by then.

That's so stupid. I've said it a million times; Political correctness is going to be the death of this country as we know it.
Last time I played dodgeball I aimed at everybody. Fat and slow, young and old, boys and girls......the purpose was to get EVERY mofo out, right???? So what if you get whomever you get out FIRST......the purpose of the GAME is to get EVERYbody out, right? How gay is that to complain about getting "put out" of a game who's purpose IS to put you out????
It's the court's fault for allowing BS lawsuits to even be scheduled, let alone be looked at. It's the damn "coffee was hot and I spilled it on myself but it's YOUR fault" mentality. That's so gay.
If you are not good at a game, either work at getting better or sit out. It's not that damn hard. It's not like they're lining you up butt naked and tied down to beat you unmercifully with a belt. It's a damn game for crying out loud. Either PLAY or sit down and shut the fuck up. How's that so hard to do without a freaking lawsuit? :2up:

basic rights to protect oneself and speak freely arent the problems/they are actually in danger of being muzzled severly.

it's a problem when the very militiamen that fought for this land, now get villainized(sp) for taking matters in their own hands and defending the countries borders. 'cause the govt is too slow to do so itself.

it's a problem when your military, charged with DEFENDING this country isnt anywhere near our borders, DEFENDING this country.

it's a problem when soldiers like bodydrpddualy wake up in deserts elsewhere and cant give you a definative reason for being there. tell me EXACTLY what our purpose is for being in iraq?

it's people that hate the fact that i/anyone can say "FUCK YOU BIBLE THUMPERS!!!" and if i get attacked for saying it, i can put a slug in them citing "fear of bodily harm/self defense".

the fact that corporations control goverments at the expense of the working man, when it's the people that used to do so by votes.

it's people being tricked into believing that we need the government, when in fact they need us.

it's dangerous when a government completely ignores the wishes of the people and act unilaterally. and in doing so, places the very people in danger.

it's a problem when the widespread proliferation of drugs isnt curbed due to people in key areas of government playing a blind eye and open palm to traffickers/cartels.

it's a problem when american companies ship operations overseas, citing cheaper labor, then turn around and sell the very same shit to the people that they just laid off....people only argue for cheaper goods when the jobs that used to provide income for finer goods just caught the first flight to bangladesh.

it's a problem when you go to a doctor for an x-ray, and he in turns sends the image to another country for diagnosis.

it's a problem when not only have most jobs went overseas, but the place where we get the most illegal immigrants from has a tougher illegal alien policy than the U.S. and both countries welcome the U.S. border jumping.

it's a problem when, i have to pay more for healthcare, due to crippling effect of an illegal persons reception of healthcare for free. and if i duck the bill, i get m credit ruined. and i pay taxes, like the rest of us, out the ass!

IT'S A PROBLEM WHEN EVERYTHING IS TAXED, INCLUDING YOUR INCOME,BIRTH AND DEATH, BUT you dont see where the money goes...

speaking of which, anyone know the national deficit? or do we have a surplus?

U forgot that it is wrong when the people that make up the country are too terrified to speak against it for fear of treason...
WE elect the officials that run this country but for some reason so many people have fallin into a complacent state of "going with the flow," that nobody speaks up when they do not agree..
I hate that so many people have the "what difference does one person make mentality."

I agree. A lot of times parents make their kids into these emotional basket cases that think everytime they don't get things going their way they can just complain until they get their way. Great example to set for our future generation. If you don't get your way, SUE to get it.
There are way too many people out there that have no business being parents and way too much time on their hands to think up lawsuits.

next to be banned in school.
free speech, which is already limited.
they are turning all the kids into sheep. since its mandatory for kids to go to school, which it should be. but the kids dont get taught what the parents want them to learn, they get taught what the government wants them to be taught.
theyre too busy making all these standardized tests instead of teaching what should be taught. they spend all year, basically, "preparing students" for these tests. i say we do away with standardized tests, or at least make them worth taking, not something you christmas tree and pass w/ flying colors. notice how you end up w/ COMPLETE idiots (see Gwinnett Highschool Students thread) in highschool and theyre there cuz they "passed" the gateway. fuck govt schools!!!

I dont think it is that the kids are getting dumber, I think that they just focus on just enough to get by. My roomie and I were talking the other night and she was telling me how she has her degree but doesnt know what to do with it. She got it cuz it was expected of her but now she has no idea where to go with it...I made the decision to drop out of college with 7 credits left, should I finish...Probably, but I wont. At least not now. I want to make sure I know what I am going to school for and make sure that I already have opinions on some of the subjects that are taught in college...I found myself getting rowled up easily in college based on how my mostly liberal professors worded things. (Mind you I identify myself as a liberal but to be honest teeter totter b/w many standpoints on both sides.) But based solely on their wording on certain topics I was easily swayed...If I ever adopt a child I want them to form their own opinions and be introduced to many viewpoints. I think that the schools are too busy tryin to make sure nobody gets upset over the curriculum they are knocking out a lot of things that would help a child grow accordingly and fitting for society. I feel like children now are just walking pawns... :(

When I first read the thread title I thought it was talking about the damn body spray, "So the stuff in the commercials was really happening??", definitely not enough sleep last night LOL!! This is fuckin ridiculous, first dodgeball cuz some group of parents decided that their kids need to be the biggest pansies possible. Whatever happened to when a kid decided to complain about gettin hit too hard, you hit them harder next time and they shut up about it, now a kid gets hit they run home tell mommy and daddy and then next thing we know the only game left for the playground is gonna be jumping rope (which will probably be banned too when some dumbass kid trips himself with the rope and smears his nose across his face). Why don't we ban Duck Duck Goose too since it could be claimed that it promotes head injuries. Or we could just send kids to school in full football or hockey gear.
I hate how sue happy this country is, takes forever for legitimate cases to make it to court cuz they're all backed up with jackasses that are suing cuz they burned themselves with coffee, or their Winnebago didn't specifically say it couldnt drive itself. Maybe I should sue my Elementary school for that time I fell off the top of the monkey bars, sad thing is I'd probably win too since theres no signs posted that specifically say "Do not run across the top of the monkey bars" LOL.
