View Full Version : Thinking of starting a website
So I've been thinking about start up a site similar to AutoTrader but dedicated to exotic/hard-to-find cars. Users will be able to search, browse, and post ads (small fee for posting). As of now I have just finished a very simple, easy to use layout that should also prove to be very efficient. Another feature that will be implemented will be a notification service where a user can enter a specific car they are looking for and they will be notified via e-mail when somebody posts an ad for that specific vehicle.
At first, most of my funding will come from advertisements on the page, but later I hope to be able to eliminate them completely.
What do you all think?

Right now I have a team working with me to get it, but if we need any extra help, I'll definitely let you know.

when you get it done you have to let us know what and where it is.

Definitely, the more traffic I get, the better it works. :bump:

Good luck, you've got quite the competition.

You might want to read all of that as well so you don't commit copyright infringement.
Sites like that one aren't run in "someone's spare time."

Thanks for the link and yes I know they require a lot of work and time, however I am working with a team that has been doing sites like this for years now and they told me this one especially won't be difficult to maintain due the small amount of users I expect for a while. This is not a full time job and I don't expect the kind of traffic that a site of that caliber would generate. I merely am doing this to see if it can work and if it does, I'll be happy, but if not it's not really a big deal.

personally not worth it unless you got lots of $$$ to get started say 50k atleast ... now it its a hobby site then it will be a fun hobby... like IA... now the difference is if IA have alittle bit more money dumped into it Julio/I could make this a full time gig.

Well, I think I'm gonna get free hosting from my friend's bro and I really don't plan on making $$$ off of it, maybe a very small amount but nothing to live off of. I just think it will be fun, plus I'm working on a killer layout. BTW, what would you have to do to make money off of a site like this?
