I'm about to take delivery on an 98 A4 1.8t Quattro. it has about 130000mi, should i be very concerned with that? Are these cars generally overall pretty good? What are some of the bad things about them...other than price for parts.

to my knowledge it hasn't been replaced. i did however notice that it has an aftermarket diverter. (i have done some research and i know they dont use blow off valves...bad karma for the engine). it rides smooth as eggs though.

aftermarket DV is sometimes a sign of it being chipped. check boost pressure and check where it peaks at. turbo should be okay. if you hear a loud dentist drill whine then it's fucked, but you'd notice it right away. 1.8t coilpacks suck and often go bad.

you say the car runs smoothly, so maybe nothing's wrong. enjoy it :)

nope not dentist sounds. i had a turbo honda (t3) and this one is so much quieter. i'm not sure how to test the boost pressure other that like installing a boost gauge. i'm not sure how to test to see if it has been chipped either.

i'm teetering on getting it or not, this weekend is going to be the deciding point when i go in to either haggle and sign or say F-it. i really like it though.

haha. I miss my vdub, but I did everything I could to it besides a big turbo (and for vdubs that's not very cheap considering all the baggage that comes with the upgrade).

I guess it was just time to move on to bigger and faster things ... with RWD.

:goodjob:
