Sae was nice guy.................... Dont really know what to say right now, In a state of total disbelief. I cant stop thinking about the rollercoaster drift rides he used to give me in that Little ass finishline parking lot, in the sc300. Me and my buddy Hector just went to see him wednesday. It is a lot to handle when you hear that someone has passed away, that you just saw not to long ago. Me and Sae were are both korean, and we joked about cultural things all the time, because we knew how hard it was for people of a different nationality to become successful in the States, for us, but especially for our parents. Sae was fortunate enough to do something that he truly loved. Some people talk alot of crap about his business dealings, but he was always backed up because he wanted to help so many people out. I mean really how many people were ever told by Sae that he counldn't help you out. And there is no possible way that you are going please everybody. When I first read the post, I admit it took a minute for really set in, and 10 Minutes laters I realize that I am just staring at my screen. I sympathize for everyone up at Finishline, but especially for AK and Sae's mom and Dad. Wish I could get in contact with them. Im sorry this post is all over the place, but that is kind of how I feel at the moment. This day sucks.

Have you tried getting in contact with Matt or June? Possibly Juan might know something? I know everybody that works their very well, I just dont have any numbers. I tried calling June today and his phone is still on not accepting in comming calls. I also tried to call Steve Kao, he lives with Mike the guy with the Skyline R32, they might know something. If you need Steve Kao's of Junes number, give me a call 678 575 4492. I will not post other peoples numbers on a thread.

They dont know anything yet. We just came back from meeting up at FL. Matt, AK, Tony were at the hospital. Sae's dad called told us to shut down the shop, then we left. His dad took the first flight, so I would think today is more of a shock day then anything else. Im sure they will make plans with in the next 48hrs.

He was hilarious. And as far as his business is concerned, I kinda think the reason he always "ripped people off", was because everyone else was getting deals from him. (We called him "Uncle Sae") He was such a nice guy... he was always letting people do shit for free at the shop, or hooking them up at a discounted price. FinshLine had a reputation for screwing people over, but it was only because everyone wants something for free. Sae fought to make his business profitable, while still being the shop that everyone was close with. It's hard to sell your various services to your friends, when they expect them all at a discounted rate.

I bought my Corolla from Sae in March last year. He told me there was nothing wrong with it, and did a few doughnuts in it to prove it. I'll never forget watching him drive my Corolla the night I bought it, at Finshline. He got out of the car smiling ear to ear, talking about how much he loved "hachi's" (always called them that) and how he wanted to keep the car I finally bought, or atleast get himself another black Corolla (Harrison bought his older Corolla, which was then black and had an open diff.)

He was a truly generous, always playful, and caring person. He never once yelled at Harry, or me for doing doughnuts or burnouts in the parking lot. It was like a ritual. If we were going to FinshLine, we were gonna get a little work done on the cars, and get a doughnut or two in without the fear of being arrested.

Damn...

It's eye opening to realize, how much we take, the things, and the people in our lives, for granted, when they're unexpectedly taken.

Rest in peace Sae, you will not be forgotten.

Hey everyone.

Erik, Marty, and I have spent all day with Tony and Sae's family in mourning. Everyone is very shocked and distraught at the moment as it happened all of the sudden. I'm going to ask everyone to show respect and not to speculate Sae's passing. He has had trouble sleeping for quite some time now and many of you know the effects of poor sleep cycles.

Mike's post on the wake and funeral are accurate as of right now.

I've known Sae personally for almost 12 years now and it's really has affected me. The past 15 hours has felt like a bad dream that has lasted for 15 days. I can't believe that this has happened.. I just saw him at dinner two nights ago.

Just to let you guys know that Sae's race team and shop were huge dreams of his since we were much younger and this is not going to go away.

Hope to see many of you to turn out and say goodbye to Sae. His friends and cars were his life...

That's it for now.

Thanks.

i'm sorry, for all those that truly knew sae, or was blessed to recieve some of the kindness that plenty here have talked about him displaying. but for those that knew him well, please remember the times that you seen him smiling, and i'm sure that the times he spent smiling far outweight the sad times and loss that has been experienced with his passing. keep in mind, the one dream he wanted to achieve, he did. how many of us today can say that? we have lived our dream? he did......be proud of him.

Found this pic earlier... This shot always reminds me of him, and just how passionate he was about his work. It's something all of us have seen Sae do... you know? When he'd just wander around the cars, and shop aimlessly, enjoying the enviroment.

I met Sae back in 12/98 when I first got to Atlanta through the fellas at computer wholesale and accessories. He was the type that people were instantly drawn to. Meeting Sae is like meeting someone you already felt like you've known because he was so friendly. We will all miss him, but never will we forget him.

This is how I remember Sae. Messed up hair, scrambling to get the car ready for the next run, but still joking around :)

Sae Kang?! Holy crap. I knew him from way back. He was old school like some of us. We (east coast honda) later had meets at Tire Star when he was there. Always looked out for you, and kept us in the loop on what was happenin. I also spoke w/ him after Nopi, cool guy, WAY energetic and will be missed.
Prayers are w/ the family.

It was a rought weekend and I will totally miss this guy. What a cool funny guy. I met him drifting in Formula D 04'. He was so nice to me and we always had mutual respect for each other. I miss him already. We used to go out and party together and have so much fun. He was crazy. I went to several Formula D events with his team across the US. We are going to get his team to the last FD event in Irwindale this next week. He never missed an FD event and his friends are going to do every thing they can to get him out there in his honor. I wish I could have seen him get married and have kids. I really looked forward to knowing him for a long time.

A good friend who will miss him forever,

All,

I've written a memoriam for Sae which will be printed in DialD magazine and possibly several other publications.

However, I am in dire need of some high-quality pictures of him. I've only been able to pull down one low-res shot of him from his MySpace page.

If any of you have any GOOD "normal" (not party, although that's hard to come by with Sae, party animal!) shots of him, please email them directly to [email protected]

Here is the memoriam that will be printed:

Sae Koo Kang (1974 – 2006)

Sae Koo Kang passed in his sleep on Friday September 29th, 2006, from an apparent, sudden, and unexplained heart attack. Survived by his parents and his sister, losing a dear friend at the very young age of 32 we question why some go so early and others stay for so long.

I probably did not know Sae as well as some, only having met him in the fall of 2004 at the D1 tryouts at Homestead Miami Speedway. However, Sae was the type of person whom you felt that you have known forever from the moment that you met him. While he was only a few things to me during my relationship with him, as a friend and team driver for Finishline Motorsports, Sae was everything to everyone – a brother, a son, a racer, a ricer, a drifter, a shop owner, a team manager, a cousin, a confidant, a friend, a business partner, and, most importantly, an honorable human being.

Sae Koo Kang was a superhero among men. A pastor at Sae’s funeral service commented on how much Sae had lived in only 32 years – if you could hear the laughter that arose in the funeral parlor amongst friends. If there was one thing that Sae did best in life, it was living. Sae lived more in one day than many of us live in one week. And, no matter how much Sae promised he would do, or how much Sae took on, somehow, in the very end, what really mattered got accomplished.

There are so many good qualities that I could pen, but I think that the most important is that Sae Koo Kang was a genuinely good person. If you had met him just now, or had known him forever, you knew that he would do everything he could to treat you right.

Sae was never sad, never mad, and always had a strange grin on his face as if to say, “Just watch this.” And you know what? You did. You watched Sae live for everyone else first, watched him do all he could to give everyone a chance, watched him make the impossible possible, and watched him make the improbable come true.

Sae will be sorely missed by all who knew him or were touched by him in their lives. At the wishes of Sae’s parents, Finishline Motorsports will remain open and the racing team will continue its endeavors so that Sae’s dream may continue on through his associates, friends and family. In order to assist with these matters, an account has been set up to accept donations for the daily operations of the shop and the transportation and maintenance of the racing team. For those interested in contributing to the cause, please contact [email protected]

Despite our differences, Sae was someone I trusted and someone who was a good friend to me. He may have not been able to deliver me the world as he promised, but he always tried to make everyone happy. I think he did a good job.

Very sad to hear, I had to look twice at the name and then it hit me... Sae did the swap for my Honda a few years ago, couldnt have met a nicer guy and anymore full of life. He always kept me entertained on those days that I stood around for a couple hours shooting the shit with everyone because my swap eneded up taking alot longer then expected because of delayed parts but it was well worth it. He helped me out alot, and he sure wont be forgotten... RIP

ahhh..mannn I just got word :(
Sae was my boy............. He was such a cool down to earth guy. I missed him already. I believed he had a good vision on the entire import world. He loved to drift and was a very important person and inpiring person in my life. He fixed my younger brothers RSR Mr2 several times and even did lots on work on my Evo8 and my Montero SR. I was always happy with his work.
ahhh..I wish he did not have to go so soon. Me and him were only acouple of years apart.

Andy..I feel your pain bro too.

RIP Sae ............."Always will be in my memories"
