The bible suggest only 6000 years... so if that is so explain how we have fossil remains well over that age? Christians would say otherwise and dispute carbon dating, but even w/ flaws in a dating system i can't imagine them being off MILLIONS of years... we have trees, man made structures, etc over 4000 years old.

whats your take?

Well, dinosaurs rock so i'm going with Billions of years old. As for the bible saying it's only 6000 or whatever. I think it's referring to when man entered the picture. I follow the evolution theory myself, but man was the original name giver. In essence, we made everything what it is if that makes sense. But who gives a damn about god. Lord Xenu(sp) pwns his ass.

lets take the Bible for example(just b/c that's what we're more "familar" with  )

do you really expect people way back when to be able to comprehend, "well, the universe was created billions of years ago and I kinda let things go crazy. there were GIANT lizard monsters running around, the continents were in 1 piece. Then... I wiped these "dionsaurs" out and stuck your sorry asses here. btw: the creation of the UNIVERSE and everything in it, well that's where it gets complicated. ya see it goes like this....."

give me a break. personally I don't give a flying shit how old the earth is. all that matters to me is that it sticks around until about a week after I die. :2cents:
but I'd like to see what some others have to say.

no i agree, but i had a discussion w/ a bible thumper this weekend so thats why i ask... its kinda hard to imagine the world we know only 6000+ years old...

Personally I think the bible and alot of the history related stuff in it and the 'mircles' are a steaming pile...some of it I would even push to say that the bible was the first written sci fi novel, but I agree with admin in the fact that I really doubt this rock with live on is only 6000 yrs old...

science wise 4.5 biliion years old, however there are no rocks that old because they go through the rock cycle. We can only guess this because we can "look back in time" at other planets.

As for the religious side- fossils were put on Earth by go to test our faith in Him.

I am not a religous freak- but I have to teach evolution and Earth Science in school so I get this alot.

Enjoy!

bwahahaha ... since when is the bible accurate in anyway, shape, or form?

it's the most unreliable history book ever written.

lol @ Bible bashers

I find it funny how people who disagree with the Bible try to bash on it every chance they get. It's like they're scared of it. :lmao:

To me, it doesn't really matter how old the Earth is. We know it's been here a time, that a big@ss flood f*cked it up (according to both science and the Bible), and that we're here now. What's the point of reflecting back so far? If you find out how old the Earth is, then what? What real significant gain have you accomplished? Look to tomorrow, not today or yesterday.

I don't have any problem with religion or their beliefs. It's when these zealots and fanatics start trying to convert the world that it starts to get stupid. Both sides have their good and bad points definitely.

as for me..im on the skeptical side..i believe the bible side, but then i believe the scientific side. im just on both sides. cause i wont believe in anything i dont know that can be proved yet. i believe what i see. i can't say i believe in god but I do sometimes think he's real but then when that scientific side comes out, i dont seem to think he is. but its all a big " what if " . I will just find out when I die . LOL and IA will probably not be around in 50, 60 years . Who knows what'll happen then.

deuces.

Well dinosaurs were wiped out a long time before 6,000 years ago. And man didnt walk the earth when they were around.

The earth is over 4.5 billion years old. How anyone can think the bible is right when it says 6,000 is a crock

:lmfao: hahaha

I honestly have mixed emotions when it comes to these kinds of subjects, mixing science and religion just doesn't work for me. I try to keep them seperate.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion but here is mine:
I believe the earth is VERY old more like Billions of years old. (4.5ish) I do not believe that humans were ever alive whenever dinosaurs roamed the earth, Just because there is no fossil record of them cohabiting (sp?/term? lol.. living together.)
I think i go along with creationist when they say that the first human beings were 6000 years ago, being Adam & Eve. but what do I know...

I believe "the begining of time" is when humans were first on earth, and that there is alot of history witch is also "time" before then, but I still believe the earth has been around WAY longer than humans have, billions of years.

Maybe someone will understand and agree :dunno:

The "proof" of the earth's age given by "science" is based upon radio carbon dating...which is already demonstrated to be highly unreliable and worthless in the context of true scientific approach. Lets put it this way, when you can carbon date an animal/object that you know is a year or two old and the test results show it to be 25,000-30,000 years old etc you are using a method that is worthless in terms of proof of anything...except proof that the carbon dating is worthless as a measurement.
Then why do "scientists" keep using it? Simply put, most dont wish to even consider the alternative origin/age of the earth and they havent been able to invent anything else that fits the theorys they cling to and that all such "science" in built upon. ;)

Also, to suggest that dinasours are proof of millions/billions of years of earth existence is rather flawed by the fact that dinasour and human fossil evidence DOES in fact exist in the same layer of strata. These discoverys are often disputed by those who cling to other hopes and dreams. The same "science" that clings to carbon dating maintains this can't be true. But that should surprise no one. With this type of "science" the facts/results matter little when they point in any direction other then the one already chosen.

The real issue has little to do with the actual age of the earth. The earth's actual age really matters not EXCEPT for one thing, if there is a Creator God and His Word is accurate then other factors must come into play....judgement, accountability, etc. Thats where the problem is for mankind. We as humans would prefer not to be accountable to anything outside of ourselves. If we can "reason away" through "science" an origin and subsequent 6-7000 year history as outlined in Scripture then we can also reason away our accountbilty to specific laws/principles and inevitible judgement by a greater authority and any potential eternal outcome.
