I got on the nopi forums today and it amazed me how many people were complaining about the judging system and how the quality of the show has gone down alot.. as I was reading one of the threads this is the reply from one of the nopi admins...

Wow.. dont come back.. Im sorry but I didnt go to nopi to see skid row or ludacris.. I went for the cars and the expeierence and to have fun as I do at most shows I go to.. but that is rediculous... they are more worried about how they can make more money then about the people who are paying it.. If things continue to go this way.. the people who spend thousands on their car will not come back.. then nopi will be a bunch of stock hondas (no offense) and no one will come to see it.. Sorry for the rant.. that just pissed me off...

This was my 2nd year showing at nopi.. and unless im in a booth next year.. probably my last.. They took out alot of groups this year.. and explain to me how marcels car got beat by a nearly stock 4dr escort.. its obsurd.. They have no class for the mkiii supra.. and then put all of us into the same catagory.. and the judges even told people they didnt care what was under the hood.. it ment nothing to them... This just shows what the show has come to.. and people wonder why the ATL scene is "Dying".. Thank god for IA shows and events...

I wouldn't say its dying - I mean look, the ricers have started appaering @ the V... fuck - I guess that is a sign of impending doom. I just personally believe that the import scene has gone more from show to some clean show and an assload of go - nowadays the thing is go fast goodies, then look good, but clean

Thats what happens when you have 300 judges of all ages, and different tastes.

David88vert
09-22-2006, 06:20 AM
This is not a first. You do not go to NOPI to be judged in a car show. If you think that is what it is good for, you will be disappointed. NOPI is great if you want to kick back with some friends, have a few cold ones, admire the good cars, and laugh at the riced out ones.
This year I got 2nd while my car was in the body shop 25 miles away. It never made it to the speedway. The "trophy" means nothing to me. I had a good time with friends.

This again just proves how un-professional of a company Nopi truely is. They don't care about their customers or what their customers want. All they care about is stuffing greenbacks in their wallets and laughing all the way to the bank. Like I had mentioned in Jorge's thread if they keep it up they will be closing more than just the Smyrna doors. Just my :2cents:

Bingo !!! hit it right on the head.

but personally I had a great time and its the perfect spot to get face time with vendors, that one may be approaching for sponsorship, at least for me anyway. I always look at it as a great marketing/networking event.

As for judging on the "broader scope" ATL rides kicked some serious butt which is always nice to see.

God im over the whole Nopi thing. If people want to make the argument that they go just to hang out with friends, then why not save your 90 dollars and hang out with them somewhere else. 4 years ago when I went for my first time I loved the cars because I was new to the whole thing, now I see the same shit every thursday of the month at the varsity (minus the vendors of course, which were kinda lax this year).

Nopi sends the wrong message to people starting out in this type hobby. I was on hold with them a week ago or so and their on hold message was something like " we will make your ride hot and stand out with the latest line of blow off valves and number one exhausts" or something gay like that. Yeah blow off valves and mufflers will make your ride stand out LOL

I will say this... its not how i would of probably worded it, but you have to remember the size of this event... you can't please everyone. AND WHO THE FUCK GOES TO NOPI TO ACTUALLY WIN? come on i've been going for like 7 years i've had cars place and cars not place... i've had cars put in different categories and cars not even judged. NOPI is not a show you go to try to win unless you are Jeff G... NOPI is used for making contacts, seeing a billion pieces of shit, skanky girls, and a bunch of nice rides/models on vendor row. Most of the cars worth a shit are in the vendor sections anyway... so there you go in a nutshell.

Personally I will tell you i was very happy w/ our event this year we had so little questions/complaints it was awesome. But big events are hard fucking work. SOMEONE WILL ALWAYS COMPLAIN.

Most of you guys are noobs and maybe just seeing these things, NOPI has been around forever, some of us remember when you used to be able to camp out... but big shows are big work.

In all my years in the scene the BEST show has always been Tuner Bash in Daytona during Spring Break... 2 days you can show 1 or both days... small but the quality of cars is awesome... plus you got tons of hot chicks in bikinis on the beach.

I think what alot of you should take form the things you see in the scene and build upon them... i would love to see more locals put events together... IA is always here to help support the local scene... you don't like seeing whats going on talk to your friends put an event together... the only cost in a small local event is just awards... there are a billion places you can get for FREE for the event, a billion places to give out FREE shit, etc... then make your own event :goodjob:

The only thing that I don't like about it is adding the concert and forcing people to pay even if they don't want to go to the concert. Other than that, what do you expect out of NOPI? There's 7,000+ cars to be judged and 100,000 people running around everywhere.

If you think that NOPI is just the same old shit that you see everywhere else, then you're lying to yourself. Half of the cars at NOPI are not from ATL, so most likely you haven't seen them. Go and enjoy the craziness of the cars, the hot chicks, the cold beer, and the spectator events. Don't go for trophies, don't go to get a fair judging. If you say that you are very into the show scene and don't see the point in entering the show even if you know the judging sucks, remember that NETWORKING is the most important thing NOPI has to offer true show car enthusiasts. Take advantage of this and make the most out of your weekend.

Stop stressing

Generally speaking, they all blend in with the other cars down here. You take a guy that brings his Civic from lets say.... Florida.... put him in a line up of Civics from Georgia. You cant say that you could pick him out though. They all use the same damn 3rd party fiberglass junk from ebay parts, and rarely do you see something original. That is my point.

And Paul is right, most of the decent cars are in vendor areas.

Sorry guys, I thought I was the only A**hole at NOPI.

Like Paul and so many have said, a show this size is hard work, and that is most of what I do all year. Most of the 7,000+ vehicles are from out of state, and I do not even know how they get them all judged. It is a thankless task, and one I would not like to par take in. As most know, I am very opinionated, so I would not make a good judge for a car show.

Most people do come to the event to just walk around and look at the cars, the girls and the vendor midway. Most people do not think they will win anything either, it is more of a social function for them.
I used to show at NOPI, before I came to work here, and I too never won anything. It was more about the hanging out with friends, meeting new people and working the vendor midway talking to the manufacturers and dealers. Never know when you will make a good contact with someone in the industry.

Just like most shows, it is what you make of it. I hated the World of Wheels shows we did this year, but those guys (Championship Auto Shows) are begging us to come to more shows in 2007.
Reason being, more sport compacts are showing up to the events now. According to those guys, it is because they are starting to feel less alienated because we are bringing that scene with us.
Even though most of the grey hairs there dont understand why the "big slicks go in the front", "the motor sits sideways", and "they have rollcages in a 4 cyl. car", they do admire what everyone is doing with the Imports and Sport Compacts and appreciate all of the hard work.

I completely agree that it is a show.. go there for the experience rather than trying to win..

would the tix prices changed if you didn't add the concert series with Luda and Skidrow? I mean, Nopi had to pay him probably atleast $10,000? (just guessing) or am I mistaken... I know Nopi didn't have to pay for everything with the help of sponsors and all.. you gotta recoup those losses for that entertainment.. what happened to acts like JIN? LIRL!!!!

Just to give you guys an approximate on cost of events...

Tunerfest(approx) throphies + cash awards alone = 6000 -7000... that doesn't include anything we bought for the event, dj's, workers or the track which cost more then all of that after we have to pay for security + medical staff for track ;)

now imagine a show w/ 100,000+ people and 5000+ vehicles

To be honest and fair, how much total bashing do you think these guys are supposed to endure while sitting on their hands? ;)

It is a huge production to under take. It is a big project. I've helped put on tiny shows and it's a big damn headache. I can only imagine what it's like to put one the size of Nopi Nats. Cut these guys some slack. I know most of the guys personally and I know for a fact that they don't sit around thinking of ways to piss people off as part of their Nopi Nats planning.

There will always be someone somewhere at any show that will not like something. Sometimes they're justified, sometimes they're just cry babies. You will never be able to please 100% of the people 100% of the time.

Hell, I had a judge piss me the hell off this year because of his crappy attitude. Big deal. I'm over it and have moved on. It happens. Maybe he just didn't like the way I looked. That could've made him be a prick to me. I don't know, and this point is water under the bridge.

People, cut these guys some slack. Even Mr. opinionated Glenn is actually a nice guy IRL. We all come off differently on the net and sometimes get our buttons pushed just so it blows the lid off. Big deal. He's human. So is Mike, Mark, Bobby, and the rest of the them. They all make mistakes. So do WE. It is the biggest show by far around here. Give them credit for something. After all, they are right. If you don't like it that bad, don't participate. The truth is that someone somewhere will probably come and take your place. No beef. It's just what it is.

Just so you know, the Atlanta Motor Speedway went way up on the rent for 2006/2007 contracts. That is the reason for the ticket price increase this year.

Ludacris for $10,000?????????????????????????????????????

Puff Puff pass homey.

Try $100,000 for a 45 min set, but to his credit, he played for over 75 min. Thumbs up to him and the great performance he put on.
Just so you know, I do not see the ticket prices going back down for 2007, since we sign multiyear deals with AMS Track, no matter who performs.

Use NOPI for what suits YOU and YOU will have a much better time at it.

:piss: on Nopi. The first time i went, it was terrible. So in all, i could of entered my "nearly" stock Honda and still beat out modded cars w/ 10X's more money in them than mine :wtf:

This was my 2nd year showing at nopi.. and unless im in a booth next year.. probably my last.. They took out alot of groups this year.. and explain to me how marcels car got beat by a nearly stock 4dr escort.. its obsurd.. They have no class for the mkiii supra.. and then put all of us into the same catagory.. and the judges even told people they didnt care what was under the hood.. it ment nothing to them... This just shows what the show has come to.. and people wonder why the ATL scene is "Dying".. Thank god for IA shows and events...

at least your bmw e30's weren't grouped as a whole with ALL 3 series, including new m3's and the like
haha
oh well.
they used to have a classic bmw class but the classes this year, eh, i liked the old classes personally. but this is a society built on capitalism and they are doing what makes money and they are making tons, so props to them for that. however id love to see a class for my old Z and old datsuns and classes for older bmws

and i didnt see the VW class list even tho i was with the durtydubs,
(and stayed till the end with my megaphone for the loudest group haha)
but were there old vw classes since thats what nopi started from?
im too lazy to go look haha

EXACTLY.

the funniest thing is, if nopi were ever to move the event somewhere else, everyone would then complain that nopi left.

Im gonna have to agree with paul.

NOPI is WHAT you make of it. I personally think the show part of it sucks, but thats not why i go. I go to meet Stephen papdakis, hang out with Chris Rado, and sit in the skunk2 trailor with David Hsu. That means meeting an networking with people you only see once a year.

People that go to try an win, get over it IMHO. I dont understand the bitching. its been like this EVERY YEAR. half the judges dont know anything, the other half dont care.

i personally will continue to go, especially since i go with a business now. I see people i dont usually see, i hang out, i have a great time, and i leave during the :concert" or "jello contest" and beat traffic :)

Anyone on here actually ever try to put on an event this size? Better yet any event? Try on a different pair of shoes and you may understand their response.

I will say this, I never showed until this year, I came into it on day 1 with the attitude I didnt want to be there, I was waiting for some judge who wouldnt give me more than 30 seconds of his time or just do drive on a golf cart and look at it as he kept going, I have heard thats how they work and I wasnt about to spend good money on that shit, for me if I am going to pay to attend a show like that I want to atleast leave knowing I was judged well and I had a great time. Saturday came and most of the day I didnt give NOPI a chance.... Saturday afternoon the judge came and I was actually shocked, he spent a good 5-6 minutes on my car and felt for dirt, felt the paint, etc... He took a true interest in what he was doing. Maybe I lucked out and got the one who cared, I dunno... But after that I realized I was bashing a event I never gave a chance to see how it was. Sunday was a blast and come awards I walked away with 1st in Civic Custom. So I will attend next year because I feel I owe it to myself not only to come back with my crew and support my sponsors, But give NOPI a shot like I didnt fully give this year when I went.

Wow.. dont come back.. Sorry for the rant.. that just pissed me off...

well said, i say we should boycot. next year and have our own show somewhere, that will be free or cost very little. :goodjob: and we can havev brett sing on stage :goodjob:

I didn't attend Nopi this year, but my first time was back in 98. I came down here w/the Super Street tour. The most fun we had was on the tour back then, running racing cars that later entered the show and ended on the cover of the magazine anyone remember a teg called Rising Sun. I used Nopi meet contacts from nopi them selves and Clutch masters and others. In fact my buddy burned his clutch out doing burnouts which gave him the nickname (Clutchmasterflex), the guys from clutchmaster had a guy bring a clutch down from their Newyork office just to help us out and sold it to me @ cost. Now Nopi is a freak show, music concert, somewhat car show. Well they grew and they taken it to the next level. Look @ the drag racing series, they now let V8 run which were outlawed few years ago and they are domestic cars. Since when Mustangs been sport compacts?

Another thing I hear,To make contacts... Most vendors get pissed off when people start talking to them about " sponsorhips ". But dont believe me... thats fine.. but I have witness while My car was in Booth etc. the people working the booth will laugh right after the person lives. Shit, Most of the people working in the booth have no idea wtf is going on in that department.

Actually I will challenge you on the contact part boss, it totally works for me. Here's the deal we worked out "this" show. The guys that sell the large transporters/RVs were there. I met them once before at the Year One Exp. We stopped by to say hi and got to talking about Sema and that they needed to get a tranporter there for the event. Well Steve has his DOT lic so we offered to drive it to Sema if they fly us back. They were game on and we called them back Tuesday to work out the details. That is networking. We would have never landed that if we had not be there. I don't just walk up radmonly say hey you need to sponsor me. It's more of looking for the opportunity as it presents itself. Not only did the deal work but we got an offer to do others where we can pick up the transporter bring my car to an event, get paid, and drive my car back. Not a bad deal for just kicking around during the event.

How many on here went to the first NOPI Bug-Off in 1988? That was the first Nationals. It was held at the Marietta NOPI store across from Southern Tech. 50 cars and a couple hundred spectators. I was one of the spectators that paid $10.00 to get into the event.

Sad thing is, I was already out of high school for that show.:lmfao:

91 or 92 was the first year that I went - took several cars, came back with several trophies. Been there every year since, our small group always has brought back at least 1 trophy each year. But the trophies don't mean sh1t....
... still always have a good time though ....

Thats fine.. .. But I did say " Most sponsors " .. I didnt say, you wont be lucky and make some connections.....
Seriously, Im looking at your signature, Im guessing they have help you w/ free products or discounts. But they do that with alot of people.. especially the ones in your sig. No pun intended please :D
Is a start.. which is good. But, once you start dealing w/ big time budget spenders they you will see what I mean.
Is also, who you know.. sometimes who you know.. gets you futher then you walking up/proposals or anything like that.
