I was told that A automatic supra can be much faster then a 5 or 6 speed. What I want to know is if you had the chance to buy a automatic or a 5/6 speed what would you buy and why? what is better ...if any one knows about Supras 1993-1998 twin turbo's and about what you think is best please let me know!!! thanks alot

I would go with the manual trans. if you know how to drive then it will be faster. And you will have more fun with the manual.

faster for what? 1 day a week 1/2 the year running the 1/4 mile at a track? The automatic [i]can[/] be faster in drag but anyone can push a button, it's all about the gear ratios anyways....just learn to drive a stick, it's so much better all around. Replacing a clutch in a manual is still cheaper than repairs on a slushmatic too.

Could always buy a cheap automatic and do a complete 1jz w/ manual tranny swap.

A 6 speed IS a faster car until about the low 10 second range at which point a BUILT auto tranny starts to take over, after that the auto wins out because of the ability to torque launch and the fact that you dont need to respool the turbo after a shift.think grand national.

In my opinion an automatic supra is a waste of a car in any situatuion other then drag racing.

Automatic if you're putting down 900hp in a drag car. For all around performance on a stock or slightly modified TT the 6spd.

It depends on the driver. Ive seen countless people at Commerce in cars that'd been a whole lot faster w/ 1/2 the pwr and an auto trans. Some cars are just faster draggin as an auto , regardless of who drives the manual.

all things being equal, the auto will always be faster. in the case of the mkIV, the "slush box" is good to about 500whp, if you upgrade the torque converter its good to like 800. my only complaint about the auto trans, in general, is they have a nasty habit of shifting when i dont want them to, but you can usually buy a kit to fix this problem.

if you have an auto tranny built right. and im talking totally rebuilt auto ECU, torque converter and the actual tranny itself, then the auto will definetly be faster than a stick. a computer can always shift faster than a human can, and with proper tuning, it can shift at the same RPM every time as well. unless your turning your car into a strict performing beast though, i would go with a manual. it will be more fun to drive, hold more power with less problems, easier to do burnouts, better for drifting, the BOV is usually a lot stronger sounding, etc. i enjoy driving manuals as long as its not in traffic, they always feel like they are more powerful.

Depends on your goal. for drag racing get the auto and they arent bad for brake boosting on the highway either. For autocross i would suggest a 6 speed. I would buy a 6 speed either way cuz i hate automatics. BUt look at the drag supras. Marko ran an 8.45 in his auto full weight supra. while Ryan Woon has the fastest 6 spd and still hasnt made it in the 8s yet. Oly runs 9.2 last i saw. SO what syour goal then you go from there.
