View Full Version : Misc Wii vs. PS3 vs. 360... who will win battle of the next gen?

360 launch was great tons of presales 1.5 million of units for Xmas; though many first run issues caused some units to be replaced xbox support was pretty quick on any recalls/warranty work. but being the only system for Xmas they did great. sys sold for 299 and 399 retail and all games 59 & under... i have one and it fucking rocks... it was well worth the money spent.
now its a battle for next gen sys... xbox has already launched and pushed out over 5 million units by June 06 w/ an estimated 10 million by end of Q4 06. They still got some major tricks planned w/ launches of Forza 2, Halo 3, and a price drop for the holiday season.
Wii for 249 launch price you can't go wrong, system comes w/ wifi, wireless responsive controller, and a game. games are estimated to be 50 and under. there will be internet access and downloadable classic nintendo games online. 6 million units estimated sold before March 07; thats a whole lot. they plan on making it readily available for anyone looking to buy for xmas along w/ over 22 titles.
PS3 i'm wondering with the steep price tag of 499 or 599 is going to make or break them. 599 for a premium console w/o software titles is very steep. i read games between 60-70; which isn't great either. this long awaited next gen console could be the death of them. sony has announced it will only be shipping 400,000 to the us for launch and 100,000 in japan...
what is your take who will be top dog?
my opinion i think Xbox is going to start to take a huge chunck of the North American/Europe market... they can't compete with sony in Japan, its their home. Wii i think is going to be the great underdog story, i can see they low low price making some big numbers for nintendo putting them back in the console race. i know i'm going to buy a Wii. :D PS3 i just don't think sony has their shit together; don't get me wrong i'm sure its going to rock but high price low amount of units = unhappy supporters. i don't see many moms and dads wanting to shell out 600$ for little johnny when he probably alreadly has a 360/ps2.

R.I.P. PS3.
I really think nintendo is onto something with the new system. I could give 2-shits about "HOW AWESOME THE GRAPHICS ARE!!!" instead i want a game thats fun, not fucking pretty.

Im buying a Wii for the old school games. However I think that Xbox 360 is going to come out on top. Microsoft has created a package for sale in Japan that is a core system and a game for $250(IIRC) in an attempt to gain a foothold there. Sony has taken too long and is charging way too much to catch up with what Microsoft has already sold anytime soon.

I say the 360 and the Wii come out on top... IMHO the PS3 has (1) taken to long to come out, (2) could possibly flop b/c of the blue ray, (3) costs a TON, (4) and is continually getting less powerful.

I hope I can get my hands on some PS3's so I can sell them on Ebay, I wish I would have done that with the 360's.

Wii is awesome, this was the first i Have heard of it, and I googled it and the way the bluetooth control makes you more active than pushing buttons and without buying the extra hardwear makes it cool as shit to me!
Wii will soar, but its hard to beat Sony and Microsoft.

The PS3 will support up to 7 bluetooth wireless controllers, have Blu-Ray capabilities which means up to 25 GB of disc space, meaning more in the games and more technology incorperated into those games (hence the steep price of both the games and system) The basic system will come with a 20 GB harddrive, while the premium package will come with a 60 GB harddrive. The memory and ram are as follows: 256MB XDR main RAM, 256 GDDR3 VRAM. The PS3 will dominate all systems at this time. Granted Microsoft is ahead of the next gen console race, but the PS3, at close to $600 for a premium package, is the equivilant to a high-end PC (and cheaper than an Alienware PC) For more information on the PS3, go here: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/specs.html
No, I am not a whore for the PS3, but I do build computers and when I saw this, my jaw dropped. The RAM alone is intense.

The Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a optical disc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc) format designed for high-density storage of high-definition video (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television) and data.
The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet laser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser) it uses to read and write to the disc. A Blu-ray Disc can store substantially more data than a DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD), because of the shorter wavelength (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavelength) (405 nm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanometre)) of the blue-violet laser (DVDs use a 650-nm-wavelength red laser and CDs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_disc) use an infrared 780 nm laser), which allows more information to be stored digitally in the same amount of space. In comparison to HD DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD), which also uses a blue laser, Blu-ray has more information capacity per layer (currently 25GB, but test media is up to 200GB). Sony has released 50GB recordable BDs and will soon be releasing 50GB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte) BD media discs.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Ray#_note-0) In August 2006, TDK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TDK) developed a Blu-ray disk with a 200GB capacity.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Ray#_note-1)

Blu-ray is an current unsupported industry standard which hasn't proven its self in the market. It will have to compete w/ HD DVD which is launching a triple layer disc for like 90gb capabilities... the only person pushing Blue-ray is Sony. I see this turning into the same shit the PSP media has. :goodjob:
And if your buying a game for media purposes other then just gaming you need to buy Xbox b/c w/ the upcoming launch of Vista; Xbox will be unleashing its capabilities w/ the home entertainment market.

The holiday prise drop is gonna be the final blow to Sony and it will send Microsoft sales through the roof and put them as the dominating force for next generation gaming, atleast until we get the next, next generation consoles five years from now. As far as the Wii goes, I think alot of people are gonna buy this thing just because its so cheap and because they are curious about this new controller but I dont think its gonna have what it takes to be the number one console.
just to tell you guys the ps3 isnt gonna have vibrating controllers because they lost the patent to it or something and im still wondering if the aftermarket controllers are gonna do any good because the ps3 wont have that feature to begin with.
xbox is good and all but the only reason i would get it is because i was a xbox fan and im only waiting for halo3 to come out. not impressed with the games that have been coming out.
so wii +1

we all know about the ps3 vibration feature, they dropped it in favor of the tilt function, the games that have been coming out for the 360 are incredible IMO, I couldnt be happier with my xbox 360, I had a deffective one but I called Microsoft and they sent me a voutcher to go to est buy and get another one free with no questions asked.

ive heard microsoft isn't planning on a price drop this season, who knows what will happen.
I think each one will succeed as did all three 5 years back when they launched. They are marketed towrds different groups and i wouldn't be suprised to see each one being great.
btw... its sony, they dont fuck up and i'm sure they've done their research on this one.

Very tru. Damn they have so many good games coming out by the end of this year and beginning of next. You see Ps3 wont be having good games come out for like a year after it comes out and 360 is now having some of the best games come out ever right now.

Microsoft really did its homework and they are gonna give Sony a fight that they arent prepared for.
Ok,
WEll This past Friday i went to the NINTENDO FUSION TOUR. And WHen we entered in the Concert. They had 12 WII systems that people could play on like 100inch screens. It was amazing. The graphics are as good if not better then Xbox360. The games were interactive. You actually play the games. They had Tennis, some sword fighting game, Zelda, and some Operation game. You Actually get to really fight and play, the games as you were in them. So personally the Xbox360 is a awesome system. But i would buy a WII just for the interactiveness (not a fucking word i dont think but i just made it one!! :screwy: )

It will be between the wii and the 360!! PS3 is too costly AND ......they lost 99% of thier EXCLUSIVES!!!!! Why in the hell would I pay 599 when I can get the SAME titles AND graphics on the 360(399)??? AND it will be a price drop around holiday season for the 360; and the wii will be at $249!!! Also people the blu-ray on the PS3 will be a down graded version of the blu-ray DVD players in the store. Why??.. because Sony is about to come out with their blu-ray DVD player(Samsung already out for $999.99 at best buy) for $999.99 as well. So why would sony bring out a video game system for $599 that shows in 1080i like their new precious blu-ray DVD player?? That would be stupid becuase they would be cutting themselves out!!! even people that don't play video games would get the PS3 over their DVD player cause it's $400 less than the player....so guess what!!...not gonna happen. NOW, how doengradable will the PS3 be??? Don't know but it won't be in 1080i. Blu-ray shows in 1080i resolution(highest) and there is only one LCD tv(Samsung at best buys) that shows in 1080i right now. NOW... the 360 will have the HD-DVD "add-on" coming out next month which will show in 1080p resolution! You will not notice the difference in 1080p and 1080i!! And that's IF you have a plasma or LCD tv that can put out in that resolution. Most LCD and DLP and Plasma tv's show in 720p resolution which is still great.
All I'm saying is for you Playstation nuts out there is the PS3 will not be all that they are hyping it to be. Sure it will look nice etc, etc, but is it really worth it?? Especially for the 85-90% of people on here and everwhere else who just have a STANDARD TV!!!!! The wii speaks for itself. Notice that nintendo could be in the same powerhouse system war as Sony and Microsot but CHOOSE not to be. NOT becuase they-re scared but because nintendo feels it's not necessary!!! Wii will be wi-fi, full internet access(as far as we now as of now) backwards compatible with amecube games, you can play ALL of older nintendo titles(for a small fee of course) AND(supposingly) Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafix16 games AND.......they will have just about everygame that comes out on the PS3 and 360!!!!! So watch out for the wii....I've got 2 reserved for myself, one for me and one for whoever on E-bay :D
Of course I'm gonna wait till the second week of December to sell it when NO other store will have it anymore that way I can REALLY name my own price on e-bay!!!!!

I think the PS3 is gonna be the best system. It won't sell as many due to it's price tag. I didn't really feel like paying out 400 for the 360 but I did so I can play old Xbox games on it. I'm gonna wait for the price to drop on the PS3 before I get one.

They removed it for this reason: Try using the Tilt feature and the vibration in GTA4 when it comes out. You'll be running around, getting shot at, and with the guy freaking out on the screen from the bullets hitting along with the vibration from the effect in the game, your character will look like it's having a really bad seizure... granted it would be funny as hell to watch, but with this happening you would have almost no control over what is happening in the game...

EXACTLY and that's why I'm waiting till first or second week in Decaember to sell my Two Wii's. Look on ebay, even now the highest Wii sold for $804+ and the PS3 $1900+. Nintendo WII is still hard to find this month go look around how are ppl gonna buy itCircuit City got in more units today and they sold out. Nintendo also has practically 4x more Wii's on the way then Sony has PS3's, expected before Christmas. The lack of availability will hurt Wii, sure. Yet the even greater lack of availability of the PS3 in addition to the horrendous price tag will have parents looking for a cheaper alternative.

MICROSOFT will win in the long run ;)
any company that comes out and says hey we are ok w/ losing a billion dollars a year w/ xbox and laughs it off... they have way too much money. PS3 will own only in Japan + other regions not tapped by other game consoles... North America is slowing leaving Sony for other consoles... this season will definately show that.

thats true.
just from a retail point of view
the ps2 was released before the first xbox.
the ps2 is still in demand these days.. xbox isnt.
While the xbox and 360 are penetrating the market, its not near taking anything over. Perhaps in the next generation after this or the one after.
What will hurt the 360 is that the ps3 is alot more technologically advanced than the 360 by far. by end of next year the 360 will be at its maximum development, and in 2 years the ps3 probably wont be at half its potential.
the cell processor is a bitch to program from what i hear, but also sony/ibm havnt released a full development kit for it. Luckily it can be programmed as a single processor, or 2 or 3 or 6 *max* so in time you'll see everything improving ALOT.

i would hardly they they're "shrugging it off". sony as a whole, not just in the gaming arena, have been taking some heavy losses due to lagging r&d and other problems. more and more ppl are no longer referring to them as an industry giant and if you did a little research, you'd see that pretty clearly.

i watched a some show earlier this week and microsoft said there sales have sky rocketed since the release of the ps3... why?? cause everyone is now wanting a 3rd gen, and the 360 is basically the only one u can find anywhere....

gow, halo 2.. soon to be halo 3 and halo wars.....PS3 and Wii haven't had the time to develop their online play yet. Give them a chance.
Also, Halo 2 sucked @ss compared to the first game. Halo 3 better get it's sh*t together.

What will hurt the 360 is that the ps3 is alot more technologically advanced than the 360 by far. by end of next year the 360 will be at its maximum development, and in 2 years the ps3 probably wont be at half its potential.
you are mistaken, PS3 does have more power in very small marginal sectors considering they had and entire 1 more year of R&D plus they have been in this game alot longer.... see the stats below these were relased back in SPRING of 05... at the time PS3 didn't even have a shit together Xbox was the only proven box ready to launch... This puts Xbox at a distinct advantage b/c they are now set a full year ahead meaning they could do the same w/ the next launch. The hardware capabilities of both machines aren't even touched yet, and Microsoft has made it really easy for just about anyone to work w/ them.
399 > 599 any day... xbox has brought a console to the table quicker and cheaper then the LARGEST name in the industry.... everything else is HYPE and sony loyal fanboys. :goodjob:

I have had every system that has ever came out. But we all have to agree there are different aspects that we like about all of them. I still have most of my systems, but I like my ps3 better than all of them, The games just need to come out quicker. Ps3 will get to the top as more and more products become availible for it.

From what i read many software makers are recommending Sony to drop the price in 07' to stay above Microsoft.

shit i really don't care who's "on top" as far as their #s go. i used to be rep the ps2 hard and didn't give 2 shits about the xbox but it's a diff generation now. i just got the xbox360 and i'll get a ps3 as well if they drop the price AND make it more reliable, plain and simple :goodjob: :D
From Wikipedia.org:
Sony has released 50GB recordable BDs and will soon be releasing 50GB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte) BD media discs.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Ray#_note-0) In August 2006, TDK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TDK) developed a Blu-ray disk with a 200GB capacity.
[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Ray#_note-1)
for one, why the fuck would u want 7 controllers on one game system, if u have that many friends that can play all at once u are a loser. and how can u see seven people at once on a tv? thats just dumb.... and even with the blu ray disc the ps3 and 360 still look the same, i mean damn, u cant really get better than they are now, the next thing in line will be real life... jesus, the ps3 is a fuckin joke and a waste of time, and seeing how the american vp of sony switched positions the playstation is done, this will be the last one...
ps3 will win xmas 2007 and will own 2008
thats like 2 years from now by then they will be announcing a new xbox or nintendo or sony system
hrm.. sony's losing more money than microsoft and shrugging it off.
sony has a 16 billion dollar cash reserve.... that i believe was the figure after its battery mishaps etc.

i think thats pretty cool u can use ur cell phone blue tooth for ps3, but still, i prolly wont be getting one... maybe when they drop in price, but i spend enough time on my 360, i dont wanna be in my room too much, and if i get a ps3 i know i will, but they have almost all the same games, so im stickin with the 360, i love it.

only things that qualify as add ons are the hd and the hd-dvd player. and if u buy the premium and hd-dvd player that's still only $600 which is comparable to the ps3. not to mention u can actually go out and buy an xbox 360 right off the shelf as opposed to paying $800+ for a ps3.

One why would you need HD player to play games? They aren't making games for that anyway; bluray/hd are both for movies... your not gaining jack shit from a gamers standpoint... what are they going to add killer cintematics for the people who like to watch rather then play?
2nd specs 60gb>20gb... xbox came out a year ago you can't even begin to compare the two considering there is a full year+ of R&D in the PS3... beyond that you have way more technology options for xbox then PS3; ever heard of media center or vista... i have my xbox connected to a 300+gb media tower at the added cost 0$ b/c most people already have computers.

I personally own one of each, PS3 OWNS the rest..... There aren't a lot of titles out now, but as soon as gran turismo HD comes out, a lot of people will change their minds about paying $60 for a game. graphics are FUCKING AWESOME. I have a 42" plasma that displays in 1080P, so I can see the extent of the graphics of the PS3 and they are fucking awesome. I waited in line for my 60gb unit, and I would do it again for another one. it was definitely worth it!

well, hardware wise, the PS3 pwns the rest. The Xbox 360 is starting to really hit its stride, and the wii does something neither of its competitors does. Honestly, I think the Wii will do well because it does not compete with the 360 or PS3. I think the PS3 will sell well, but this will be the beginning of Sony's decline, and the 360 will probably edge out the PS3 because it represents a nice middle ground between the consoles.
Profit wise, Nintendo will bring home the most bacon like they always do. Microsoft will probably finally break even and Sony will slip even further into debt.
The gamecube was an utter "failure" yet posted $33 million profit. The xbox, a success in many people's heads lost microsoft $160 million. The PS2, which outsold both the gamecube and xbox combined lost sony $44 million. I'll take Nintendo's "failure" any day.

Games have grown in size exponentially in the last few years. Kind of hard to predict the future, but planning for it is much smarter than assuming it won't happen.

Read what disc, HD DVD/Blu-ray? HD they have a seperate drive you can purchase to watch movies if you want, but again what is the point...
you won't be playing Blu-Ray games in near distant future... i guess you don't understand the size of those disc, we aren't even using DVDs to their full capability so your not going to be doing it w/ a Blu-Ray anytime soon.
the average 360 game is using 49% of the capability of the DVD9 format... they are 8.5GB... hello if blu-ray is 25GB (and also up to 50GB) what the hell is Playstation going to put on the other 20+GB of space? Software companys work to make games smaller as it is, b/c programming becomes more advanced so you don't need as much code to do the same things.
you said PS3 can do the same which infact it can't... xbox has the best online system and beyond that you have full capability to use xbox with your microsoft network at home from there you have a full range of file swapping and an infinate amount of resources. furthermore the after market is awesome for xbox!
ps3 is more powerful as far as hardware, there is no doubt... but when you can do the same shit + more for less $$$ its a no brainer. you can get a 360 premium for as low as 200$ compared to the 600$ retail price of PS3. If 400$ more is worth watching movies :goodjob:

well the 360 is out a year now and the prices finally dropped. the way to get it for 200 is get a microcenter card and a 100$ rebate. After one year we'll see who's got rebates on the ps3.
Their not trying to make programs smaller. Smaller programs cant "technically" do more the code is just more efficient. but in those cases the compiler itself will be more complex and so the decoding engine needs to be larger which would slow down the overall system. There is a certain balance they try to achieve between the 2. If the compiler/decoder/engine is too complex even the simple shit gets slowed down, but if it isnt powerful enough everything is slowed down too.
Also the biggest problem i have with most games is that they are too short. Hell hate to say my favorite series final fantasy was too short. Its why i play WoW atm cus theres really no end to it. and in the future they will want to use up more space. Lengthen the game, better graphics more details. A wider array of textures, voices, colors etc. Also it allows them to optimize gameplay for different setups such as 360 with HD or without rather than having the actual 360 decode the difference and possibly slow down gaming. Its an option, not saying that they may or may not do it.
true, xbox network is more advanced atm because its been in full play since the orignal xbox. With microsoft at its back it should have a good chance at being better due to the network that microsoft runs. But on the other hand, sony's partner in crime is IBM. and overall ibm actually runs the larger network infrastructure around the world. It will be fun to watch how both turn out in a few years.
IMO theres just too many variables to pick a winner.
One is more advanced, one has been out a year and has a market hold.
One plays blu-ray one HD.
Somepeople prefer halo, some prefer FF, etc etc. list could go on.
All i know is atm i love my ps3. No doubt blu-ray movies are awesome, cant wait for the games out in march theres like 5 of em. In the future i will prolly pick up a 360 also just because unfortunately as in the past, i tend to buy stuff i dont really need. like a gamecube... and no games...

well you can't complain w/ prices not dropping for 360 they have a console priced at 299$ at launch which was what 50$ more then Xbox/PS2 launch? Sony came out w/ 250$ over PS2 launch!
i'm a software engineer there are always ways to make things smaller/faster... there are many titles that have done this many many times... Microsoft has helped developers take advantage of tools like XNA and Procedural Synthesis to make file sizes smaller and to build games quicker.
games like WOW are still not even taking up the full size of a DVD... what is WOW 6gb total maybe and that is the largest online game right now. the other reason why you won't see games of that size is b/c of LOADING times... do you know how long it would take to load up 25gb even on blu-ray? why do you think console games have more capabilities... they are driven from your harddrive... even blu-ray if i'm not mistaken is only running at 400mbps and sata drives are 1.5GBps... there is just no comparision. Also it cost a butt load of money to make a game, not everyone can build a title like: WOW, Final Fantasy, HALO, GTA, etc.
There is alot of hype behind Sony products, its that simple you have to remember game developers aren't going to make 25gb and 8gb versions of games... just isn't going to happen. They are going to build what the market demands. PS3 has nice technology but I already have microsoft network at home including a 360 which was bought a year ago and the only thing a 600$ console has to offer me is Blu-Ray..? sorry not buying it.
Its definately going to be interesting to see where the market goes... for some reason I don't see Microsoft waiting to see what Sony does, but moving forward on their development in the industry... I am predicting they eventually build an all in one console + media center machine. The market is just too good for it. I love mine. Microsoft has sold over 20+ million Media Center machines worldwide as of Oct I think and Vista has yet to launch. The last 360 update even allowed connection to Windows Media for content connectivity which is cool b/c you don't even need Media Center for that. I think it will take a while before Microsoft can even compete with Sony on the console market worldwide, but they will definately start to pick away at their market.

i played the ps3 at a friends house and it was badass..to me better than the 360 but i havent payed the wii yet..
Well considering if you try to go out and buy a Blu Ray Player, you will not find one cheaper then $750, then a PS3 is a hell of a deal. You are not only getting a Blu Ray Player but you are also getting a video game consol for free in essance.
However, if you could care less about HD and just want a "video game consol" with good graphics but never plan on taking advantage of the Blu Ray Player, then you are waisting your money with the PS3 and need to get an xbox 360. (note: xbox can attach a HD-DVD drive, however, HD-dvd players only retail for about $450 anyway compared to $750 for Blu Ray)
If you could really care less about graphics period, and just want a fun, enjoyable, simple game system, then the Wii is the way to go.
Each system is completly different, each system is a bargin for what it offers, it is all a matter of what kind of gamer you are and a matter of preference. All 3 gaming companies will be around for awhile and arent going anywhere.
I think the Wii is going to be more child friendly with both the game selection and the price for parents. However, as the kid hits preteen and up, they will feed into the PS3 and Xbox360. No kid really cares what the game systems offer, simply how well each company market's it to the kids to make them WANT it!!
I will probably end up getting a wii because I like the old school games, but I will probably get one of the other systems as well once the price spike goes down.

Looks like the Wii won the console war for Christmas with the XBOX360 in second. I wonder how Sony is going to follow up in 2007.

easter is over guys, why the resurrection hype?
by the way, 360 will take the cake with Halo 3 release no doubt. Its already got a huge library, with consoles on shelves consistently. PS3 still has a long way to go to catch up. Wii will always be in the middle, plain and simple. Innovation is good, but nothing beats a massively popular FPS. The Wii doesn't have a cult favorite just yet, give them time, they can be creative. BUT THEY DEFINITELY NEED ONLINE MULTI PLAYER TO EVEN COMPETE, imho

the wii will never mount up to either. the PS3 will die out soon and come down in price. 360 is just all around amazing. IMO

hahha are you insane! by this time next year nobody will even know what an xbox 360 is. Its all about what games come out for what systems and ONLY that system... so far all xbox has that ps3 doesnt is Gears of war all the other good games come out on BOTH systems
ps3's upcoming launches
Resident Evil 5
Final Fantasy XIII
When you have names like CAPCOM and SQUARENIX making their Most famous titles on YOUR system that has to mean something. Just those 2 games are enough for me to want to buy the system. What does the xbox have coming out next yer
Forza motorsport 2
Halo3
(both games were made by Microsoft)
They don't have any big names making huge titles on their system
First of all I hate halo call of duty 2 and 3 were way better than halo 1 and 2. Forza motorsport is the ONLY game that I would want
Now Im not saying that xbox360 blows ass and sucks total balls im just saying that in time ps3 will be supreme. Now dont buy a ps3 right now save your money, wait until better games come out for it. if you really want a system badly get a Wii its cheap and the Wii is super fun
Wario ware
Super monkey ball
Twilight princess
Sonic
wii sports
all really really fun games and very original

Then what the hell do you call the Halo and Forza franchises?
Just because the developer's name isn't all that big, doesn't mean the game won't rock. I mean, look at Loco Roco, Katamari Damacy, or even Pac-Man when it was first coming out; all by basically no-name companies.

I just bought the Xbox Elite last week. I can say, for now, that the 360 has the best games thus far. But, you get what you pay for. I paid $480 for it vs. the $600 I would have paid for the PS3. The difference in price showed the minute I turned on the 360. The fans are really loud, the "black" paint is really cheap, there's no wi-fi, no hd-dvd, and the system will probably break down on me. It's sad to say but I HAD to buy the Best Buy warranty because I knew the 360 Elite would break down sooner or later. I like the games on Xbox right now, so that's why I bit the bullet and bought the system. Gears of War is amazing and I love how Xbox Live is setup, even though I hate shelling out money for it. When the PS3 drops in price or produces better games, I might trade in the Elite back to Best Buy for store credit and pick up a PS3. The Wii is also a pretty solid system too. I would have picked that up if I had money for a 2nd system. It's great for when you have friends over, but it doesn't have the games I'm looking for when I want to play by myself.
So here's the breakdown:
Build Quality: PS3 (Winner)
Games: Xbox 360 (Winner)
Uniqueness: Wii (Winner)

Being that I have experience with all 3 systems, I shall comment on this. At the present time 360 > ps3. Even with that being the case, I still bought a ps3. The only thing attractive about Xbox is halo for many people. But, I never liked that game, so otherwise xbox doesn't appeal to me. However, in 6 months to a year ps3 > 360 all day every day, we're talking GT5 (hopefully this year), GTA4, MGS4 (hopefully this year), FFXIII, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, its just goes on and on.
As far as the price aspect, ps3 actually comes out cheaper than a 360 by a longshot. To have full 1080p in everything you have to buy an elite which is $480, to get hd dvd you have to get the player which is another $200, and for wifi its another $80. Total = $760. Versus the ps3 which has everything already for $600. Along with standardized hard drives, so you can go out and pop in a 500 gig one if you wanted, cant do this on an xbox without modding.
Also the PS3 xmb > xbox blades. Sleeker interface, as well as simpler and cooler. The console itself is badass, it perfectly matches the entertainment system, and you can barely hear it. PS3 controllers > Xbox controllers. Although the xbox controllers have vibration thats a plus, but sony is coming out with a sixaxis 2.0 that will have vibration.
So for future I'd say PS3 will win out, once the games are kicked into high gear and the Playstation Network expands.
WII is cool, but its gimmicky and gets kinda old. Not to mention its basically a gamecube with motion sensing technology.
