View Full Version : Misc Wireless connection help?

I have a wireless network setup and I have a desktop that works fine, One laptop works fine. But I have another Laptop the disconnects every 5 minutes or less and then it picks up again.
Any ideas what May be causing this? because.. this suck..

Do you have any cordless phones that are running on the same frequeny sitting close the the laptop or the router?

Bingo thats what I was thinking. Also check the Power settings too some times they are set to putting the drive to sleep after 5 mins by default and that will def mess you up.

Yeah, I have a couple of cordless phones pretty close.. within 6 feet I will say.
Dont know about frequency though.

Most phones use the 2.4 GH which is want a lot a routers do.

Yeah, thats what they both are (2.4). Easy way to fix the router issue is throw the phones away =]

The smart thing to do before assuming that is the problem would be to unplug those phones and see if it works...but the power sleep mode sounds like a good think to look at also.

Its more than likely a driver issue. Ive got a cheapo pcmcia card that does the same thing.

The phones would definately be a good way to start. However if the phones are not causing the problem then my 2nd guess would also be power settings. If its a Dell they have a bad habit of cuttin off peripherals to save battery life. If it's not the power settings the next thing would be getting the most up to date driver from the Manufacturer, and if by then it doesn't work just tell the laptop to GDIAF!!!
