I wouldnt say completely unphotoshopped. You have to remove the rig somehow in view of the car. Lots of good clone stamping to do that.


As for the challenge, Ill be up for it soon. Im actually building a fairly decent test rig myself. Just a lot of trial and error and research on my end.


Right now can I challenge it? No, I lose, but these are the kind of shots that seperate those of us that shoot on the weekends and those that shoot as a profession. But in due time this will happen. Rig designs are one of the most guarded pocessions in automotive photography. If designs were released and it would be as easy as going to your local wolf camera to pick up one, most photographers would be put out of business by the simple fact everyone would have one/want one.

Oh man, dont tell the photographer that :lmao: Some guys seriously take a lot of offense, simply because there is a lot of time and effort in creating a shot like this. A rig is a special system of arms/legs, etc anything you really want to call it that attach to the body of the car, extends, and holds the camera steady while moving with the car. Once you capture the shot youll more than likely see the rig in the photo. After post processing you get the final result like you see in your first post. Unlike sticky pods that attach to windows and dont extend very far, think of a rig as a tripod that is a part of the car.

Only trick on this one I see is some good photography. Looks like someone was just shooting from the back of a truck or suv. They may have possibly been using a gyro.

oh yea, any rig shot has to have some post proccessing (including the rig being removed which typically isn't a whole lot of fun :) ), but just trying to clarify that the entire shot wasn't "chopped" or anythng.

The first pic to me looks like it was A) taken from a rig at a very low speed, probably 5 or 10mph rolling on a longer exposure. B) The smoke looks totally pshopped in.

The second pic looks "all natural" except it was possibly taken at a slow rolling speed of a few mph. But the background etc doesn't look pasted in.

To me, someone w/ about 10 years experience at photographing cars and whatnot, the second pic is way, way more impressive. It's an awesome shot.

Smoke looks photoshopped in! I doubt he could've had no shake on that rig if the guy was doing an actual burnout! There would have to have been a sick anti-shock mechinism on there. I do know of the actual video camera rigs that suck onto the outside of your car, but they don't extend away from the car as much as the one you see in the first photo! 2nd photo, i've actually heard of a lot of people getting friends to climb into the trunk and snap the shot from there! I 've done it at a 20 roll and it came out good but the rear suspension is too stiff to be doing that alot....

You havent seen the rig Ive seen man. More than likely you wont, unless the photographer allows you to be at the shoot. Some rigs can extend out 15 feet from the car and still maintain the rigidity to maintain a clear shot.

Honestly a 20D is 95% as good image quality and about 90% as good for shooting moving objects as a 1D2.. I had a 1D2 for about 8 months and went back to a 20D. The only thing I miss about the 1D2 is the bigger sensor and less crop. It's all about good light and a good lens.. buy the best glass you can get.
