I own a 1990 Honda Civic LX. I am having a power stuggle with deciding between getting a new VTEC engine or to get a H22. I want to lean to the H22 for the more power it can offer me with the sacrifice of weight. Pleast give any information that might help me. Like so Pros and Cons or something.

Thank you.

All h22 are DOHC VTEC. a h22 swap into a 90 LX is a significant job requiring custom mounts and body modifications because they have cable shifters, in addition to added weight in the front of the car. Custom axles will also be needed. You will also run into a wiring issue becase i believe the earliest h22 are obd1, requiring custom wiring or conversion harness. Pls the LX is DPFI, which will require you to atleast wire for mpfi.

Sounds like a lot more money than I want to spend. Do you think the B16 would be cheaper and easier to swap out. I know I could squeeze a lot of power out of it if I put the time and money into it.

b16a swap is a piece of cake. youll still have to wire for mpfi regardless, but you can modify stock linkage and its a much more straightforward swap

h22 requires Premiums gas, Its DOCH VTEC Very good engine. Its gonna cost you alot to get it swapped. I'd get b16,b18,b20 for that type of civic.. Becuase I haven't seen h22 in a 1990 Civic...

The gas is not a big problem. Not even all the re-wiring. Its getting the money do buy mounts, if needed, and getting all the extra stuff that I would need with the H22. It sounds to me like one of the B series would be better. Which one of the B series would ya'll recomend? I don't know if this would help but the car does have almost 205,000 on it.

All vtec b-series require premium gas also. Which b-series is best for you depends on how deep your pockets are. Obviously the most affordable is the b16.

there IS a JDM h23a. I've seen one IN a prelude on meets on the south side of atlanta.

https://www.tigerjapanese.com/product_info.php?cPath=42&products_id=156

There IS a EUDM (European) H23a vtec bluetop. It comes in accord wagons with tip-tronic automatic transmission. I've seen this in person when I go back home to Jamaica.

here is one for sale on ebay with a h22 tranny.

yo street speed... your getting the models mixed up man

92-96 there was a "Prelude S" 96-01 there was a "Prelude Type S"

Prelude S had a f22 in it. Prelude type S has a factory port and polished h22 with 11:1 compression. The type S also had ATTS like the USDM Prelude type SH. See the difference?

Put a b series in there. It would be easier. Putting a h22 in a 90 civic will require lots of professional help. It can be done. H23 came out of 92-96 prelude. Rare 92-96 preludes came with an h22a1 stock.
