changed the timming belt on my bros car today......it had broke.
got it all done and it was setting there idling then it just died, but it was like some one slowly turned down the power knob till it was dead.....
no back fire....no spiting or anything just slowly died.
i checked the spark plug wires and no spark..
so i changed the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap..still no fire...
i checked the internal coil and i got 12 volts on the spring that connects to the cap but thats it....
any ideas whats going on...

Bent valves.... You cannot turn the bottom end independently to the vavletrain on these cars, chances are, the valves are bent.

as i said the car was running, and running great WITHOUT any strange noises or rattles
then it just slowly died.

when you try to crank it what is the car's "response"

it just turns over like it wants to crank, but no sparkat the plugs?
could the distributor have went out like that, but still give power comming out the coil?

thats what im thinking, my moms cb7 went dead like that too, everything else was fine and that was the issue. as soon as the distributor was changed it cranked right up. of course i wasnt in the car w/ her when it died, but thats the only thing that comes to mind.

while you're at it try a compression test just in case.

but the distributor probably got fubared when it jumped timing.

+1 any car without a *free* valvetrain that has broke a timing belt can bend a valve.

Also, you might not need a complete distributor. Sometimes, it's just the COIL inside the distributor that goes out.

lol you must not even read and comprehend the post.
did you read where the car was running with out any valve noise?
what about where i checked the coil after it died and for it to have
12 volts comming out of it.....
i understand that most the time the valves get bent, but its not the fist
ohc that i have been around that didnt do damage to when the belt broke...
---------
update on car is ........it my nephews car and his mom "my sister inlaw" is a bitch so im thru with it...lol..
i found him a distributor on here yesterday and she wouldnt let him go get it...
enough of my time has been waisted.......

if they take the car to a shop and get it finished i'll post what it was....

Did you even TRY a compression test ?

It doesnt hurt you know. :2cents:

Oh and motor can still idle and can even sound like normal with bent valves.

I just love it when people ask for advice but they dont evn take the time to do what they should be doing to single the problem out.

I had the same thing happen to me on a 94 Integra and no valves were bent. Also after the new timing belt was installed the Dist went out the first day running again. Kind of weird.
