put it in a jar w/ a stick and a leaf to simulate its natural habitat.
make sure you poke holes in it because snakes have to breathe

I have it in a 5 gallon bucket in my driveway for now. Im thinking I should feed it something :thinking:

Looks like a grey rat snake. What kind of environment did you find it in? Copperheads always hang out in big heaps of trash/mulch/branches.
Go let it back outside, they're endangered and you need a license to keep them. Rat snakes are good to keep around the yard, they'll keep all the small rodents away.

our backyard is a heap of muclh and branches, with a creek running through it, I thought it might be a rat snake also, but I dunno, it is very aggressive.

ummmmmm any copper head i've ever seen has had way more copper tone to it.. and not so many markings... maybe that one is just young or something... and i've for sure never seen one with a green tail.... i wouldn't kill it either way... take it somewhere remote and let it go...

If you try and screw around with it, you can easily get bit....and it would serve you right for screwing around with a cornered snake. :rolleyes: You do realize that some snakes can strike as far out as they are long???? If you are not used to handling snakes, don't screw around with it unless you are ready to get bit.
Why don't you just simply call Animal Control to come and take it?

10 minutes ago I caught a snake IN my house. OH CRAP!! It was only 8" long, but brown w/ blk spots, and my cats were buggin over it. I scooped it up, threw it on the drive and cut its head off w/ a shovel. What was it?! I have a pic on the digi I can put up if need be.

I just use my pellet rifle to kill snakes...it gets the job down and doesnt make a mess...but since it is a weak weopen it requires some skill to get a headshot...
Then I can dance over its dead body yelling BOOM!!! HEADSHOT!!!

K back to the snake... it's a copperhead.. your best bet is to kill it if you haven't already, or call this guy... he did the snake shows at the summer camp I worked at and he will come to your house and get it... free I think... not sure though.
And it is only illegal to kill non-venomous snakes. If a snake is venomous, you can kill it.
IF you choose to kill it, COMPLETELY remove the head, then find something to pick the body up with and something for the body to "strike"... Even with the head removed, the nerves in the body are still alive, and it will flail and hit whatever it is closest to. If your arm is what it is closest to, it can potentially get venom on your skin and leave you with a nasty rash (your skin absorbs the venom). Or just call dudeman and he'll come get it. I suggest getting a pro out there, because where there is one, there is more... and pretty much the only ACCURATE post I have seen in this thread is the fact that the venom is slightly stronger at a younger age. Snakes can strike at over 200mph... don't fuck with it.
The guy's name is Steve Scruggs... he runs a wildlife program and stuff, and if he can't come get the snake himself, he will point you in the right direction.. he's a really nice guy, and knows snakes REALLY well... The number for his wildlife program is 866-880-9453.. give him a call.

I have all sorts of those things crawling around in the lake behind my house (lanier) I just shoot them with my pellet rifle from a safe distance and be done with them.
