what does a turbo do when it needs to be rebuilt.

UR CAR SMOKES, THE TURBO MAKES NOISE AND OR WONT BUILD BOOST. IT WILL ALSO HAVE ALT OF SHAFT PLAY

OUT OF THE EXHAUST. THAT QUESTION MEANS THAT UR CAR IS SMOKING AND UR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG WITH IT. CLOSE?

CLOSE?no it means i have heat wrap on my down pipe and i had a oil leak and oil leaked on it and i did not know if oil was coming out of my turbo or that oil needs to burn off so this is a question about a possibly blown turbo.

IF UR TURBO IS LEAKING OIL U WOULD SEE IT COMING FROM TTHE BOLTS OF THE EXHAUST HOUSING, OR THE FLANGE/FITTING FOR UR OIL DRAIN OR SUPPLY. IF THERES OIL OR THE SUPPLY OR DRIAN FITTINGS, CLEAN THOSE REALLY GOOD AND START UR CAR AND WATCH FOR LEAKS. BUT IF A TURBO NEEDS TO BE REBUILT IT WOULD SMOKE LIEK CRAZY OUT OF THE EXHAUST (MUFFLER).

ok then my turbo should be fine, no smoke out of the pipe.

I WOULD SAY SO. CAN U CHECK FOR UP/DWN AND IN/OUT MOVEMENT OF THE SHAFT BY GRABBING THE NUT ON THE COMPRESSOR WHEEL? IF UR CONCERN CAME FROM THE OIL ON THE DWN PIPE ID GUESS THAT THE TURBO DOES NOT NEED TO BE REBUILT.

Quick question. Can you pass emmisions after you turbo your car? Any info on this would be helpful.

I dont know how it is up where you live, but make sure you don't have any check engine lights on if thats how they test yours. Also make sure your idle and cruise (no boost) are tuned for a 14.7 a/f ratio. As long as your car is making a clean burn, you should be alright.

what color would the smoke be mine is pouring grey smoke . i think the motor is toast.

smoke from Oil would be blue.
Smoke from water ie bhg would be white
