Mitsubishi 65" DLP 1080p WD-65731

The HD Satellite connection will be set up tomorrow. :chuckles: College football is going to be great!

I haven't even had a chance to set anything, adust, etc, so pardon the mess. I still need to get a backlight for the TV (looking at setting up something like this) and hook up my receiver, speakers, etc.

How to make a backlight guide (Thanks to Rican219):

I saw it lined up next to one of the Samsungs and the picture quality was about the same, but the gloss black front of the Samsung 1080ps really turned me off. I wanted a matte-black finish. Plus, I know that the Mitsi will do true 1080p when it becomes available. Will the Samsungs? I know that a lot do not do native 1080p, uncompressed signals just yet. Many do, but some don't.

I still think Im going to end up with the 55HDT79 from Hitachi even though its not 1080P.

I like the new JVC and Sony 46'' 1080P LCD's but I still want something bigger =/

I agree about the glossy black on the Samsungs, thats what I have now and Im tired of it.

version

It's an old way of doing things from another forum that I am on.

Sorta like...

"Some new pics for today! v. jailbait girls"

or

"Did some new mods to my car! v. it sounds incredible now"

etc

Depends on the level of eye strain, honestly. It helps to reduce the strain. I have to see how much myself or my g/f get when watching this in a completely dark room all the time.

looks good man, that backlight is a very good idea. I'm going to forward that link to my mom concerning what we were talking about in the other forum when it comes to eyestrain. I like how you put the CD in the corner of the screen, pictures never do justice on how big 65 inches actually is.

The 3-yr service was another $340 I think, so take that into consideration.

TV: $2900 ($3200 normally 'til I talked him down)
Stand: $345 I think ($450 normally)
3-yr service: $340
Tax...

LOOKING up the dimensions of the tv and seeing it from all angles, it would be too much work (to your walls) to mount that bitch in the wall. i retract my previous question.....:lmfao:

Ive been reading more about it and they say most earlier 1080p tvs still cant fully accept a 1080p signal when they do become widely available making them alittle useless for the soul purpose of buying for accepting that signal alone:thinking:

the technology is still in its infancy so i hope my tv doesn't become obsolete

The FCC sucks. The still-as-of-yet broadcast flag is why current TV's may not be able to accept 1080 resolution HD.

65" is huge! ... but if/when I get a big screen, then i'm going to have to go with Plasma. Nothing else that I have seen for thin, flat screens is as good when trying to watch your TV in a sun-lit room. Too bad a 65" Plasma costs ~$10,000+ at the moment! :-) (you can get 50" plasmas for ~$3000-$4000, though)

The Mitsu that I just bought accepts a native 1080p signal. :goodjob::goodjob::goodjob:

The stunning 731 Series picture is further enhanced by an all-new digital signal processing system. Plush1080p® allows for precise deinterlacing and upconversion to 1080p. 4D Video Noise Reduction creates smooth yet detailed images. And Tru1080p™ processes the highest resolution HDTV signals in their native format.

Tru1080p™ Processing - All Mitsubishi 1080p HDTVs process 1920 x 1080p inputs without downconversion, delivering the full bandwidth of the incoming signal directly to the screen for a true 2 million pixel image.

There ya go. :)

Word of caution though, to the normal folks,

Don't go over you budget and go crazy to FORCE yourself to buy a 1080p display, just because it is the rage.

At the moment there are very, VERY limited sources that can even put out 1080p.

HDTV is still at 720p at the moment. No 1080p broadcast exist at this time that I know of.

Early HDDVD Players can only do 1080i. Newer models may be able to do 1080p, and so may the new Sony PS3. However.. it still remains to be seen HOW MANY titles / games whatever will be available at 1080p. Not to mention that for the next couple of years those players (HDDVD) will be $$$ expensive , and so will the titles (prob. about 30-40 a disc).

If you are just going to watch standard dvd's and don't plan to upgrade your player and YOUR ENTIRE DVD collection at this time, a 720p screen will do just fine. Likewise, if you just plan to watch the occasional game in HD. (You would also need to upgrade your service to HD.. more $$$)

Be also aware that normal broadcasts may look like crap, when the TV downconverts the image. Unless you want to watch HD channels only 24/7, this can be an issue.

If you are not going to get a screen bigger than 40" I won't even bother with a 1080p. The difference will not be noticeable, unless you sit like, 6 inches from the screen.

H O W E V E R

If you feel you are ready for the digital age, are able to shell + $ 6.000 on a TV and all the digital gear / cables / sources / service etc.that go with it to make it shine, then yes... this is an excellent TV, and when fed the proper source can give you visual orgasm. Just don't expect to watch much 1080p tv for a couple of years.

^-- WELL SAID PLUS 1 FOR YOU,

I manage an HHgregg here in atlanta, we get alot of customer that want 1080p televisions, but they dont know why (there buddy has one usually).....the only real way to take advantage is a blue ray player $1000.00

I would personally invest the extra money in a good home theater system.
