From what I heard, legally any mod you do to your car you can be fined for. Anything outside of OEM specs is illegal, lowering/raising the car, changing the exhaust, putting wider tires on it, etc. Not sure how true that is, but just what I heard.

lowering is fine so long as it is not X inches low....its like 22" in cali

Great thread but i haven't seen any correct info. posted here yet, i'll start from the bottom and work up....

In Georgia, it is unlawful to raise or lower a vehicle more than 2 inches from the original manufacturers height.

When modifying your car, as long as all the parts are DOT approved then you are ok. i am checking on the sound ordinances for georgia now as soon as i can download the adobe reader...

The info. first posted in that forum regarding modifying exhaust was incorrect, that was the section and code applied to motorcycles in the state of florida, not vehicles, read on and you'll find someone else posted the correct information and the steps to testing the legality of it.

Supposedly he got out of the tickets also, interesting.

all non OEM mods are illegal. Code books go into all the hieght codes, noise codes, suspension, motor, ect codes. But remember, they are all officer disgression and usually used as POP chargers. Get over it, everthing on your car is illegal.

yea that has to suck that guy will think twice about posting about his problems ina forum ahah.....we are fairly lucky in gwinnett county especailly the cops are rather lienient, and after all the people that pack in at the BP at pleasant hill that is crazyness taht most counties cops would be giving tickets for loitering.

If you keep your car in good taste then most cops will leave you alone. I'd probably pull over "rice" if I saw it too.

I find it comical that modified vehicle suspension heights is illegal. Over half of the trucks in GA are skyscrapers. You can go up with your ride but whatever you do, don't go down.... low is bad.... bad ju ju

Nittanys1
05-22-2005, 06:20 PM
you have a limit to how high you can go up too...

sooooo if you have a body kit and lowered your car say 1.8" and then the body kit makes your ride lower would you get a ticket?

sooooo if you have a body kit and lowered your car say 1.8" and then the body kit makes your ride lower would you get a ticket?there is no way to accurately measure the change from factory height unless a stock vehicle is next to it...measuring from the top of the tire to the top of the fender well on each and comparing them, it has nothing to do with aerodynamic/body kits.

Yes it does. Later, QD.
