View Full Version : Power Mods I need turbo upgrades....for my B18B civic.

I have a T3 Super 60 turbo on a Blox manifold, a Tial wastegate with Greddy top mount, a Greddy Type S BOV, a Greddy FMIC, a Turbo XS boost controller, and a Vortech FMU. Currently set at 10psi of boost, safely driving it daily. All stock fuel system running with a Missing Link.No drag racing, no street racing, a little on the pedal sometimes just for fun.

What should I upgrade and why?

Turbo cams and cam gears are available to me now and I was told I would see a difference just by installing them.

I know I need to upgrade the fuel system so I've been told I need bigger injectors (but what size?), a fuel rail, an external fuel regulator, and a fuel pump.

I know I need more spark so I assume an MSD digital 6+ complete setup is the way to go.

And finally, I need to get a new cpu and program. I've heard good things about the new Hondata S300.

I would love to go to Mainstream and drop it off with my CC but that isn't an option right now. I need to add and upgrade a piece at a time, but in what order???

ANY and ALL comments and suggestions, alternate ideas are welcome, suggested, and appreciated. Thanks to all.

First thing id do is get rid of the fmu and get something else, like Hondata, chrome, etc....
Injectors, id at least get some 550's gives you more room for later, a walbro 255lph fuel pump should be enough, and a adj. fpr if you plan on boosting a bit more......
A simple MSD 6a will do, stock is fine also...

The real way to really see a good improvement on cams would be by tuning with them, but youll need something to tune it, like Hondata, chrome, etc...

Definitely get some sort of standalone engine management system.

Crome and Uberdata are good, cost efficient alternatives to your FMU. Main Stream can also get that for you.

Thanks for the replies so far....yeah, my plan is to get to Mainstream once I pick up all the parts I'm gonna need. I can't do the whole job at once so I need to get the parts as I can come up with them.

As far as a standalone, what are the pros and cons and why for these systems: Hondata S300, Crome, Uberdata, any others?

Are 550 injectors overkill? I'm not trying to build a 600+ hp monster,....I can't get traction now. Which brings me to another question....I know I need to get an LSD....is one brand better than another? What do they go for? Is it worth it getting a used one? After I get that installed, what else can I do to get more traction?

Also, a friend of mine has an Eldebrock Victor X intake manifold with upper and lower fuel rails. Is it worth it to get this? Is it going to make a big difference, now or later?

no 550's arent over kill. its small enough + a little room for more in the future if you decide to boost more. if not, DSM 450cc will do also.

With the standalone systems...its all in your preference and how much you want to spend. If you dont want to spend alot of money then go with the free software like crome or uberdata.

LSD, you can Type R LSD (One of our cars ran 9's with it) or you can get Quaife / Kaaz. Quaife goes for $850+ new.

traction wise is suspension, tires, and multi-stage boost controller...but turbo hondas dont get much traction :D

What's traction?

get 550cc inj if you're wanting the 300-350whp range...injectors can be found in the $100-200 range.
your chassis is obd1, so it's safe to assume you have an obd1 ecu...can be chipped for $80 range.
ditch the fmu and missing link=free if you do it yourself.
walbro 255 pump=$80 range
dyno tuning=$280-$420 range

you don't need adj fpr, rail, or msd for 10psi range on your engine...the stock components are fine w/ the additions above.

like was said by anotharrr...cams won't do any good unless you tune them.

I'm running an all stock OBD2 with the missing link. ok....550cc injectors....who has some for sale? Who can chip my ecu for $80? Does chipping it mean installing crome or s300 or something like that? So I dont need a whole new cpu? Of course I going to go higher than 10 psi so won't I get better performance with a fpr, rail, msd, and cams once I get it tuned? Also, again, will the Eldebrock Victor X intake make a difference?

If you are OBD2:

www.boomslang.us Purchase their OBD2X-OBD1 conversion harness for $80
1996-1998 is OBD2A
1999-2001 is OBD2B

Boostfed.com Can get you injectors from Precision, 550s will run around $280-300
or
You can hunt down some EVO8 injectors, they are 560cc, youll need a resistor pack to wire them in, those injectors run $125, resistor pack $20

MSD 3 Bar Map Sensor from NOPI for $60

Walbro Fuel pump $90 (i carry them, barnett performance carries them)

OBD1 ECU chipped, contact scotty aka Digitalboxtuning.com

if you're running an obd2 ecu then you'll need to get an obd1 ecu socketed/chipped. if you have one then i can socket/chip it for you w/ crome. if you don't have one i have them available already socketed/chipped. get a conversion harness from mainstream plus the other items discussed in previous replies.

you won't need/see gains from the fpr, rail, or msd (unless running really high boost). cams and intake will net a gain.
