Ok, there has been a series of break ins in my neighborhood (like 7 this month including cars and houses) and 2 of the people have came home and the "intruder" was in there house. So I've been thinking about taking my gun with me to work (leaving it in car) that way when I come home, the gun won't be sitting in my room, unaccesable.

Anyways... my question. What is the law about carrying a gun? I dont have a license or anything like that for it, so I know I can't "conceal" it... but in stupid person terms, can someone just explain what exactly i CAN do? Can I keep it in my glove compartment or the pocket in the door, or do I have to have it sittin in the open on the seat? Just curious. Thanks much.

you can have the gun in your car unloaded and visible.
Be careful with your job as some work places dont even allow guns in the car.. dont say nothing. Keep it in your car unloaded when you pull up... loaded up when you walk in and be safe.

Alright man, thanks much for the info. Ya, I'm not gonna share the info with my work, cause like I said, it's gonna be with me for the sole purpose of being in my possesion when i return home heh. I'm not really worried about it, but better to be safe than sorry. Thanks again Julio.

Glove box or center console. Or out in the front seat. Without a CCW, under the front seat or in a side door panel is a HUGE no-no. You're much better off just getting your CCW. Later, QD.

That reminds me of something Would it be legal if you carried an AK47 across the chest? I mean, I know there's a ban on fully-auto weaponry, but could you carry something around yourself like a .50 in the open and still be protected under the law?

I don't believe you can do that. Later, QD.

You can carry loaded without a permit.

Here is the official code:

(d) This Code section shall not forbid the transportation of any firearm by a person who is not among those enumerated as ineligible for a license under Code Section 16-11-129, provided the firearm is enclosed in a case, unloaded, and separated from its ammunition. This Code section shall not forbid any person who is not among those enumerated as ineligible for a license under Code Section 16-11-129 from transporting a loaded firearm in any private passenger motor vehicle in an open manner and fully exposed to view or in the glove compartment, console, or similar compartment of the vehicle; provided, however, that any person in possession of a valid permit issued pursuant to Code Section 16-11-129 may carry a handgun in any location in a motor vehicle.

Always bring the biggest weapon to a fight. Hopefully you never have to use it, but it is there if you ever do.
