whats it missing? with the current demand of those motors it isnt uncommon to see them pushing the 2500.oo mark.

Jarco is a great company to buy from! was that price for a half cut or just a motor set?

I say Jarco 770-479-4942 ask for Bill, tell him Tracy from BG sent you.
They won't be able to do that cheap, but believe me, you don't want it if it's that cheap. Jarco test drives their cars in Japan before they bring them over. If it's only $1700 it's prolly missing some stuff or has bad compression. You really have to be careful who you buy used motors from...because they are used obviously. Jarco provides a limited warranty on their motors.
Also PM me if you would like a price on the swap (that is if you aren't going to do it yourself:)). I tried to PM you but you don't have it on. SR20 swaps are one of our specialties ;)

It's gonna be hard to fina a good SR for that price, you might be able to find a RB20 for that price, I reccommend RB20 over a SR20, cheaper, more power, it's different, skyline power, we do Rb swaps all of the time, the SR's jsut played out. JARCO has awesome quality and you get what you pay for.

It's older and makes less torque though. Less parts availiability and more expensive to make have 300 hp or more.
I say if you just want something to put in there get whatever any swap will do.
But if you want bigger power later the best bang for your buck is an sr.
I made 317whp and 302tq with my sr 240 and it could throw down. Never really seen too many rb20's around with anything other than stock.

Respectfully:), IMO, the SR is a better choice...whether it's played out or not (hondas have been done forever, too but people still build them...because it's affordable). It takes longer to do the RB swap, which for most ppl means more labor costs. Also, the potential power on the RB is more, but out of the SR20 you can inexpensively get more power with less mods. All in all, I guess what I'm trying to say is that with the SR you get more bang for your buck:)

But is your sr stock? By that I mean do you have stock injectors, turbo, maf, engine management?
I never lost to a rb20. And I have busted many a 20's ass. I mean mean rb power is nice but a 20?
25 and 26 :D

We've done a few RB's into 240's as well and they are pretty fast. They just cost twice as much to build. I'm not saying that it's not a good swap. IT ABSOLUTELY IS:)...I'm just saying that it's more expensive and there is nothing wrong with the sr20 swap (regarless of the bandwagon thoughts).

the problem is, I only have two months do this because of school and all. I would pay for $2800 front clip if i had the money, but I just don't have enough time to raise that much money. I'm not trying to cheap things out and all, I just simply don't have enough time to afford a $2500-$2800 motor.

Then I would wait if I were you. In the long run you will end up spending more money. Motors that cheap are usually missing something. Just think about that and take it from me (if you want :)), I have experience. There was a swap done recently here. The guy bought a motor from someone that no one had ever heard of...cheap! Well, we are finished with the swap and now we find out the car has a bad oil pump. Something that we would not have known until we went to start the car (no oil pressure). Basically, dude is going to have to pay for the whole swap again because in order to fix the pump we have to take the motor out. Don't rush this process if you want it done right...and don't let the froogle side of you get out of hand. You'll end up paying in the end ;)

If you buy a cheap motor shit will more then likely go wrong on it.
Then you'll have to buy new parts, get shit fixed.
It'd cost you more in the long run.
Just get another KA if you just need transportation.

Well what would you suggest, paying for another ka and turboing that. Because either way, something is being turboed this summer, whether I pay for a ka and turbo it, or buy an sr.

sr if you got money. I think sr got much better compression than ka. correct me if i am wrong.

Why do you have to turbo something?
Why not just save your money up and buy something nicer then a 240?

um it has 8.5 to 1 which isnt necessarily better or worse. you could run a smaller turbo with less boost and make the same amount of power with the ka's compression. But it probably wont last as long if it isnt done right.
How is an rb20 swap more expensive than an sr? Motor set is 1500 from like jgycustoms then you get motor mounts and then wiring done. I know people that have done whole rb20 swap for around 2k.

Sweet! That's a good deal.
Is that paying labor or doing it themselves? That must be for them doing it themself based on the price tht you gave for the motor. There is no way that some one got the labor for the swap, the motor mounts and the wiring harness done for $500....

When buying a motor and you're getting it from a place thats a whole lot lower than everyone elses price, generally there's a reason for that, you're not paying for their quailty you're paying for their quantity from junkyards in Malaysia more than likely. So if it takes you an extra month to save and buy from a reputable dealer do so, its better to do it right the first time than have to pay to do it a second time.
wtfISaPRIMERA?, you just haven't run up againt the right RB20's, alot of the ones leaving our shop are stock but theres a good few that aren't. Yes it's a older RB motor, 89-93, but isn't a redtop just as old? Makes less torque? Every stock RB20 we've ever dynoed has made more power and torque than a stock SR does. It's just like SR's, they're a dime a dozen stock everywhere, but the are a couple of mean ones around.

Oh no they did it themselves of course.
http://www.jgycustoms.com/motors.htm
They also sell custom mounts and wiring. The rb20 is harder to wire up than sr but i have had a few friends do it themselves.
I guess he could get a CA18 too for cheap.

This is Jay by the way.
You can get an rb20 back until 86 in z31 Z cars and R31 skylines which pisses me off because I have seen some kids with the older rb20s thinking they came out of an r32. I'm not saying they are from your shop because this was a while ago and i think they were tophat cars.
And yeah a redtop is pretty old 91-93. So dont get one! Get a blacktop they made those up until 98 for s13 and 14 motors and until 02 for s15. I'm just saying 1986 until 1996 is long time for a motor.
Rb20s make 185 torque at the crank an sr's make 202, now does an sr have a bigger drivetrain loss or something? I have always seen dyno of sr's having more torque than rb20s stock for stock.
I dont know Im just throwing this out there. If the kid just wants something in there and doesnt plan to modify it I say go with the rb but for more power later go with an sr.
