Well I am in the process of ordering cams and already know what I'm going for, but found this and kinda made me wonder. And if anyone can give me some input I might just buy these then, hell $350 for a set is a hell of a deal.
http://www.jhpusa.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_31_82&products_id=815&osCsid=76145d7f8adcb1074274c6c1d26d02ff
what the hell are these? they're b-series vtec high performance camshafts that states that they're comparable to skunk2 stage 2. But they're selling them for $350 for a set, thats an amazing deal but wtf are these?
Also I need to know where I can get ITR valve springs and retainers, because I'm planning on using them but omnipower valve springs and retainers combo is $319.99 which is a hell of a deal unless I can get ITRs for cheaper. I don't plan to rev past 8k so please don't tell me that you should get this or that. I've done my research on honda-tech for the past 4 hours and finally came down to my decision.

OMNI springs >ITR, How high you rev is only half the problem, with high lift cams the chances of coil bind and retainer wear is more.
If you want to nuy cams, go with a NAME BRAND, you get what you pay for. I guarantee those JHPUSA cams are BLOX cams, prob Stage1s

you sure mike? because right under those jhp cams are the blox stage 1s which are like $500. But thats what I needed to know about the valvesprings cuz the full set for ITRs are $300 and omni is $319.00 with retainers. Well since you're here I'll go ahead and let it out, I'm going with buddy club spec III cams because of the smooth power they provide throughout RPMs except after 7600rpm which doesn't bother me because I'll be shifting around that point. Skunk2s have ran through my mind alot but after reading this article on honda-tech made me think about it.
here's the thread, it also have plenty of dyno charts in this thread too showing how the buddy clubs killed the blox in low range-mid range, blox gained 20whp on top but buddy club III were dominating 10-15whp on low to mid range which is what I need.

Everyone wants a ride in my CRX when it is back. I'm not sure why, it's not like it's that fast LOL!

SKunk2 PRO1s will make more power than Blox or BC3s, period.
The JHPUSA cams are just blox cams ith out the name, they are copies of copies.
If you really want power, buy Omni springs an ret or ROcket motorsports or SKunk2 an PRO1s, otherwise, i wouldnt buy any camshaft.
You should ask me about prices if you want to save money. Omni springs an ret i can get for $295, PRO1s for $480ish

skunk2 pros are definetly great but thats overkill for me (seen dyno's and thats just too much for me to handle). Tryin to build a DD/street with out spending mad cash to make it work (leaving the block stock for a while). Thats why I wanted to try buddy clubs because they work with a stock bottom end and still increase smooth power throughout the rpm. ITR/CTRs are my last option if I can't get this to work, I've ran them 3 times already and they gave me a reasonable gain but looking for just a little more kick. If anything mike, I'll try skunk2 stage 1 or 2 but not PRO series. But the omni valvetrain is definetly what I want since you can get it for less.

I have a set of ITR Springs and Retainers I'll sell if your interested. Car only had 75k miles. I'll let them go for $175 FIRM!

hey mike, I'll give you a vafc version 2 brand new for the valve springs and retainers, RM would do too.

I dont know why people think that. PROs are not overkill at all.
If they are overkill then why did Kierons ITR block make 202whp with them? everyone on HT said that my PRO3s were overkill on my motor, yet, they made 10WHP oer the PRO2s.
Or how about the STOCK B16A2 we put PRO1s in, with a DC USDM header, Greddy catback stock intake manifold , intake . He made 132whp with all the mods BEFORE PRO1s. THen when we installed them he made 156whp. Thats a 24whp gain, on a 1.6L 10:1 compressin motor.
Im telling you they arent overkill, but if they are out of your price range, thats one thing. But power wise, they will beat any other cam on the market. PERIOD.

and if you want a DD/STreet car, PROs OWN every other cam in the midrange

go with the pro1s man.....
Go with what you want. If it were my motor, I would run Pro1's or M22's, but that's me. With the Pro1's or M22's you do have increased wear and tear on valvetrain because of the steeper ramp rates, longer duration, and increased lift. A solid Omni or RM valvetrain will handle it, but it won't last as long as a smaller cam. The BC3's are not bad cams, Mike's buddy T-Bone is a big believer in them, and he has made some really good numbers with them. Good luck, and if you want a set of M22's I know where you can get some cheap! ;)

I appreciate the help guys, I do realize that PRO series are good cams but some of you might have misunderstood me. I want my car to last and be able to be DD/Street car. I'm not out to make crazy power, just need something with more of a kick than ITRs, hell even comp cams will work for me. But that's why I chose buddy club III's because I can still drive it everyday, street it, and still last.

well thats my point, if you want a street car, get PRO1s, they make more midrange power than an other cam on the market, midrange power is what your going to want in a STREET CAR.
but like i said, BC3+s are nice too

pro 1's, omni springs/retainers, bolt ons and stock bottom, and not revin past the factory limit.....how long will this last?

08-01-2006, 12:14 PM
a long time
lol, a long time. Just make sure that every once in a while think about changing out your oil pump! lol. My new limit on oil pump is 25k miles, but that is me revving the piss out of the motor and running it in very harsh conditions quite continuously.
Vteckidd
08-01-2006, 01:10 PM
if you keep the revs down, then the oil pump will last. under 9100 an itll last.
you failed because of 9500+ 45k miles worth of abuse.
your new motor we wont have to rev it out as far to make the power, so youll be fine
