I currently have a 7 month old, 45 lb black lab mix...he loves to chew on any and everything and i mean everything. any suggestions on a long lasting chew toy that he can be occupied with?

i need something that lasts more than three days cuz thats the longest anything has lasted...

dude at the checkout line at walmart they sell chew toys for $0.88 a piece..i buy a new one everytime i go..i have a 4.5 month old golden retriever who is teething right now and i just keep all of them in a basket...he takes one out when he wants it..(i need to teach him to put them back) but if he destroys one im only out less than a dollar.

also buy some bitter apple spray from any pet store and spray it on stuff you dont want him to chew...i sprayed it on the fringe on my couch, the fring on my rug, the corner of my night stand and some other various things..it tastes bad so they stop chewing on it.

the most important thing w/ labs is supervision especially when they are young..when any retriever gets bored they tend to chew up everything.

best thing i've found is the big ropes, but my lab likes stuff toys better her fav was a stuff duck... she would carry it around like she has been hunting... only problem is she like to rip the insides out of her chew toys. i just give her big bones once a week.

Here are some toys that have lasted us several years (with a med. sized terrior and a miniature (middle size) poodle)

Kong:
This has lasted really well for me- but you have to get the correct size, we went through 3 before we found the right one.
My dog loves his, especially when I leave for work, I put peanut butter, carrots, doggie treats, peanuts... really anything inside and he has to get it out!

This is great too, its a fleece-like material on the outside so it holds their smell really well (the kind of toy that is a favorit is one that smells nice) and these toys have sound! (we have the frog)

But that's about it for toys. I think they didn't tear up the animals b/c they talked and they took one apart and I had to buy another and they didnt' tear the second one apart.

I can recommend some good "chewies" that we've come accross as well.

I just got my puppy this rubber chicken that is the most obnoxious thing ever but he loves it...whenever you you squeeze it it sqwaks like a chicken as it fills up w/ air.

his favorite toy is this stuffed purple hedgehog...

tennis balls are good (we only play with ours outside the house though, b/c it gets all druely and stuff)

Here are the raw hids that are good:
pressed lasts really well and doesn't get all nasty and stain stuff (always get the 'clear' colored ones- otherwise they might stain your carpets)

or try Nylabone Snack Bones (these are more expensive- but are easier on your dog's digestive track- flavors like Beef Jerky, Bacon & Egg and Hot Dog)

And if you get the rope, you should get the one the the breath freshener in it.. it really makes a difference (fluoride and baking soda)
(Our rope has lasted us 3 years)

not everyone's got a dog with jaws like your's ;)
and if the dog does start pulling the seams, or tearing it like he's ripping a rabbit apart~ take it away, eventually they get the message (but give it back later, if you repeat this... they'll stop)

my dog used to shread everything ...

Like C boz said. Kong It's the one toy that has withstood my dog's chewing. She has torn open tennis balls, ripped up stuffed animals, and shredded rope toys. But the Kong has outlasted them all.

also buy some bitter apple spray . My dog liked that stuff LOL. We never had a problem with her chewing on anything but chew toys.

good suggestions...long lasting toys is what i'm after...i've just been taking care of this dog for my sis...so its not really mine, she doesnt have a whole lot of time for him at the moment, so i'm trying to keep him occupied until she can give him the time he needs.

just been feeling like i've been wasting money on the rawhide bones and he busts through those like in 2-3 days, stuffed toys get ripped up, tennis balls easily destroyed, but i'll have to try some of the rubber toys...thanks all for the suggestions though
