Well, what kind of things are you in to?
Don't spend much time in Times Square, it's just a flashy tourist trap with really expensive crap all over the place. The food there is mostly chains and junk you can get anywhere. It's best to stick to the local places for any character.
Get a Metrocard and ride the trains everywhere, it's really easy. Go have some real pizza in Little Italy... mmmmm yum.
Other than that... depends on what you like. I like museums a lot so I go to the Met, walk around the park and take pics of the amazing architecture all over the city.

I am originally from NY. Which Sheraton are you staying at, there are two in that area, one is being worked on but still open? I would reccomend Ray's Pizza, they are all over and very good. Vineors has some of the best Cannoli you will find. You should see the Empire State Buildling, and take the Staten Island Ferry to get a great view of the Statue of Liberty without having to deal with the tour, and it's free. The Rockefeller Center has an observatory now that would be fun to do. Go to Central Park and see the park, it is beautiful. Littly Italy has some great food if you like Italian. Def, take the subway a few times, fun way to get around and quicker than cabs most of the time. Another reccomendation I will make that you not be unhappy I guarentee is if you go to 53th St. I believe it is, near the Hilton Hotel, there is a Halal stand with some of the best food you will ever eat. Lamb, chicken, rice, salad with a sauce. It is the best, there are two on each side of the hotel, this one will be open later at night and have the long lines. Have fun, it is a great place to see. If you see the big red double decker busses, they offer great tours of all of the city.

You can get "real" pizza anywhere in the state of new york... At least compared to the dogshit they have down here.
the subway is cool as hell... empire state... statue of liberty... the museum of natural history... bronx zoo... walk around to a couple of the restaurants around time square like planet hollywood. I went to there for the first time a few months ago... place was awesome.
If you can find them... there are a couple of dudes in times square that paint landscapes with rattlecans. I watch those dudes at least once every time i go in. They always turn out amazing and sell for 20 bucks a pop.
Get yourself a pretzel and a hotdog from one of the vendor dudes walking around... Just a real city experience. It's impossible to have a bad time unless you walk around after dark alone in central park... In which case... be prepared to lose your wallet. ha.

I can't believe all you guys bugging out over the McDonalds. :lmao: It's JUST a McDonalds... still serves shitty food! :P
Collins, Justine knows I JUST moved here from Manhattan about 2-3months ago, lived in Gramercy for the past couple years, and grew up in NY/NJ. If you bring her, and you need directions to anything, just give me a buzz - I could be your own person city and subway map.
I wouldn't just go randomly riding the subway trains. Stick to the 6 - that'll take you from Times Square all the way to Little Italy.
You're not staying "on" Times Square, you're staying "in" it. ;) Times Square is huge. It's going to be REALLY crowded at night. Check out the Toy's R Us - it's got a ferris wheel in it. I don't know, there's nothing really BIG in Times Sqaure; it's kinda just a place to walk around and shop.
Little Italy is ok if you want to go to a nice resturant for italian food, but I wouldn't travel there for pizza. Little Italy is almost non-existant now from what it used to be. Canal Street/Chine Town is really taking over. If you want good pizza, like someone mentioned earlier, find a Ray's pizza - I found out they have one here in Alpharetta; if you've ever been to that one, the ones in NYC are 10000000000000000x better. I also like Brazo! Pizza.
Go to Canal Street and walk around and buy awesome stuff for cheap (watches, hats, clothes, I don't know if Justine is into designer stuff like bags and jewlery), but I warn you, during the summer, it WILL BE PACKED. But considering you're not from around there, you'll most likely be taking your time.
The Met (aka the Metropolitan Museum of Art) is an awesome visit. It's right outside of Central Park, and it's a gorgeous walk just to get there. They also have the remains of an acient egyptian tumb in there. I know that place like the back of my hand because I went there about every other freakin' week for my Art History classes.
The MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) just opened up in a BRAND NEW place last winter; it's a pretty cool building and it's got some pretty awesome stuff there. They had a Pixar exhibit not too long ago.
The American Museum of Natural History is my favorite. It could be because I've been going there on class field trips since I was in 1st grade, and it's more of a nostaglic feeling then anything else, but I took my boyfriend there last year and he seemed to enjoy it.
Go to Central Park. End of story. Just walk around. I suggest doing it during the day, though. :lmao:
I guess you could go see the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, etc, but in all honesty, those are ALL DAY tourist traps. I don't know, they never thrilled me. But I am from there, so it could be different for you. Just plan on spending all day if you try to get in, especially during the summer.
There's clubs and bars AAAAAALL over the place. Don't even ask or worry about that. There's a bar on about every freakin' corner.
I can't think of anything else, but Justine knows where you can reach me if you need anything. :) Have fun. I miss it so much. :(

and THAT is why you rock! i'll be sure to check out some of the eateries, but as far as the bars go, the alc. is covered! :D open bar thanks to magnolia! :) i wish i could take the lil lady with me.. unfortunatly she wont be going. i have to share a room with another associate if i'm not mistaking... so yeah. thanks for the info!
