View Full Version : Mountain Run; Thurs Morn, July 27th

Hey, I don't know if anyone would be interested in attending a mountain fun-run this thursday, but I'm looking to get a few people together. I know it's short notice, but I'm actually kind of happy as to keep the group-number down. It's more fun and safer that way. We're looking to hold it this thursday so that there will be minimal bikers up on the mountains. That, and I'm looking to get a fun run in before school starts back up again for me. Speaking of, if anyone attends NGCSU, PM me.
Anyways, I normally do these with vwvortex.com as I know several of the "hillbillies" as we call ourselves, but I thought maybe some IA'ers might be interested in joining as well.
If you'd like more details, I'll list them as they are asked. Otherwise, here's the vitals.
Who: Some IA and Vortex.com people
What: Mtn Run, cruise in pack from Cumming up to Dahlonega and ride the triangle
When: 9am, Thursday July 27th, we usuall finish the triangle around 11-12
Where: Meet behind the Chevron off Exit 14 in Cumming off 400
I expect due to that being somewhat in the middle of rush hour that people will be up to as much as 30 minutes late. Please, if you plan to come, TRY to plan accordingly. PM me for my phone number so you can call if you're running late. We try to meet at 9am, and we usually leave out of there around 10.
Hope to see some of ya'll there!

Dude, that sucks. We're planning another here before too long...early august, I think.
On the vortex, check in the SouthEast forums and look up any of these key words..
Hillbilly
Hill Billy
Hillbilly's
Hillbillies
Yeah, some of them can't spell. But that's the group I roll with. The people the most frequently come out are...
sjettav
16v...1.9L
elvir
eastcobbler
snap, I know more of them by real names than by usernames. Deb, Bryson, Kris, Lee...uh...strictlygravy (gravy) umm...can't think of more. But check it out, we're always doing mountain runs, cookouts...whatever
I think i might try to make it out to this. I'm off thursday night so I'll probly have to stay up all night or just get a nap since i usually work nights and go to bed around 8am like i am today. I'm PM'ing you for more info...

On a Thursday? I'd love to go on a Mountain Run, but I wouldn't be able to make a weekday :(

07-25-2006, 09:33 AM
Man ben your just posting the mountain runs all over the place arent ya :goodjob:
You guys should come out for a run some time. Its a great group of people although mostly dubs we dont mind the occasional jap import to come along :tongue1:
Im not gonna be able to make this one due to work but hey ben I finally got a new ride that i can take up to the hills for the next one.
Lee
EvasiveEF9
07-25-2006, 10:49 AM
Sounds great, Lee. Don't be jealous of my jap, though, just because it surprised everyone on that first run and ya'll asked "What was under the hood". It's all gravy, man. You don't have to fear the D15B2.
Yeah, I'm posting this on the Vortex and on IA only. I might have a local chick in a prelude coming as well. I'm leaving it as a little more open invite since I don't think we'll be as hard as the hillbillies normally do. In addition, it's a thursday, and short notice, so not too many people can make it. This run is mostly for those of us who recently left their jobs cuz their bosses are assholes and did everything they could to keep them from continueing their education. Not that I'm in that position or anything...
Yes, I apologize for it being on a weekday, but I'll assume there will be less traffic of bicycles as well as cars. NORMALLY the hillbillies run on a sunday morning. Same time same place.
Flip, shooting you the info now.

I would go but we have a Athens area IA meet that night. I have done two mountain runs in the past three weeks, I am addicted! You all have fun and be safe!
EvasiveEF9
07-25-2006, 11:07 AM
Haha, safe is the only way we do. The runs are definitly addicting, just gotta know your limits.
If your meet is in the evening, come on out. We'll be done with the run probably around 12-1..that's when we normally get out. Then it's tradition to hit the Zaxby's up there. greatfnr knows how we do
I've actually got an EF meet at the varsity in atlanta afterwards in the evening, and the next day I'm departing at 5am to north carolina for an offroading meet.
Come on out, it'll be fun.

Oh, and to anyone who doesn't really know the exit, it's a little screwy now with alot of construction so be careful.
Exit 14
once you get off, stay to the left. It'll take you back under the exit and cloverleaf around. It'll make you head westbound. Go about 1/4 mile and look to the left, it'll be right there. We've met there several times before and it's a great place.
Is the Prelude chick's car going to be up or is she riding along?
I'd love to go but between work and having done so many car related things lately, it's not going to happen. Enjoy!
EvasiveEF9
07-25-2006, 01:26 PM
All gravy, there will be more.
I just got in from checking the rear brake pads, bearings, bolts, calipers-bled them, rotors, struts and contacts...all gravy and good to go.
Prelude girl, I'm not sure. I'm still waiting to hear back from her. She's the girl that spun a bearing at tunerfest, but still won best R/T (Brittoknee) so congrats to her. Hope she makes it, but at this point it's looking like a no-go.

Umm...I'll see what I can find...
EvasiveEF9
07-25-2006, 01:39 PM
Ok, I THINK this is it...but in the directions I found it says "exit, stay right". But I'm wondering if those directions haven't been updated since the construction took place.
This is what I found though, and like I said, it sounds like the right one.

Would love some camera action.
Check into some tires maybe tomorrow? I think I might be going in for an alignment tomorrow. I don't THINK I need it, but it's been so long, I'd prefer to make sure it's perfect.
As for those who can't make this one...there's rumors of another one coming august 6th...

Hopefully ill be able to make it depends on what time i get off work. how late do u think ill be getting back home by o and how hard do yall run cause i might need to do a lil maint to my car and dont want to be riding to hard on the brakes. and pm me ur info thanx bro
EvasiveEF9

Usually, we end up back in Dahlonega (after the triangle) around 11-1, depending how many stops we make throughout the triangle, and such, as well as how hard we run.
There's talk of doing some photo's and video feed after the first run for anyone who may be interested in getting their cars on film. That's totally up to the driver and whoever has cameras.
As for how hard we run, I'd go ahead and take a look over on your car. No matter if I plan to run hard or not, I always run over my car (brakes, oil, coolant, brake pads, rotors, lug nuts, and tire-wear/damage) because sometimes even when you don't plan to run hard, you end up doing it anyways. We normally run pretty damn hard, but I'm wanting this run to be a little more relaxed from the norm. More than likely, I'll end up leading (unless someone takes it from me) and I make several stops here and there. I listen to the crew as to whether they want to run slower or faster. Just remember..if we start getting beyond your limits, feel free to slow down and ask us to slow down at the next break-point. I don't mind adapting to the drivers in the crew. We also normally run on the basis of the harder runners taking the front, and cruisers in the rear.

If I am going I have to change my brake pads, I burnt them off basically running down Brasstown Bald alone the other week...lol
EvasiveEF9
07-26-2006, 12:19 AM
Haha, I dont' know what kind of pads you've got, but I use autozone's Duralast Gold. I had my doubts, and my buddy talked me into them. I've had them about a year now, and they look like they MAYBE have two-three months wear on them? I mean they're hardly used at all, and they grip well, and handle the heat well, and I"ve done about 5 mtn runs on them. Plus...lifetime warranty rocks. I'm also on full Dot4 fluid with a rear disc swap and 4040 prop, though. Minor upgrades, nothing badass yet.
I advise Dot 4 fluid if you plan to do these here and there, and decent pads. Rotors are OEM and well abused.
At the same time...skunk2 coils all around, so I don't brake ALL taht much for curves. Tires are just 205 40R17 Fuzion ZR1's. Again, though...lightweight car.
Bottom line...I'd give the duralast gold's a go round. Well priced, good wear, and seem to handle heat well.

EvasiveEF9
07-26-2006, 01:51 PM
There's a deal's gap run on friday? Damn, I wish I'd known!
As of right now, a run isn't officially set up for the 6th, but there's been a bunch of us talking about it. As soon as it's made official, I'll ahve a new thread up. If it's not up by tomorrow late-night, I'll probably make it official and start a thread myself. My only concern is that it'll bring TOO MANY people and we may have to run even up to as many as three groups...
It's gonna start getting crowded on the weekends because everyone's trying to get in those last runs before salt trucks start setting in up there...even though that's not til about October or November. This is just primetime because it's cooling off from the summer heat.
Anyways, I'll post when it's official

One last post before I get some rest. To whomever I gave my number too, call me at 7:45 to make sure my ass is up and movin'. I'll check here one more time before I head out the door in the morning for any newcomers and what not. I'll be leaving my house at about 7:50 or 7:55, so that will be my last check on here. I'll leave a post to let you know it's been done. Other than that, hope everyone gets plenty of rest, and we'll see everyone in the morning at 9. I'm expecting to get there right at 9, so look for a primered-out 91 civic hatch (posted in Avatar)

YAYO!
Yeah, I've been saig sways for a long time now. We'll see when I actually GET them. Maybe christmas...
I've been havin plenty of fun with what I got, but I know your STI could take me in turns...which tells me it's time to bump up the stickiness. I just never had that little bit of sway that I felt today...and that bugs me. then again, I've got more polyurethane bushings at the house I have't put in yet...
I think this one is my fav...

Thanks man! :) I'm getting better...
Are they adjustable? Some have different settings, and some have one but are just really stiff... You may want to get an alignment either way. I'm not sure if they would change the stock alignment or not but I would guess so...

hmmm dont know if theyre adjustable but they have nuts on both sides wich can be loosened or tightened.. also i need a camber kit before i get aligned

Find out exactly what kind they are and do some research on line... I can help with that if you want. It doesn't sound like they are adjustable, usually the adjustables have like 3 holes for the bolt to change to each of the 3 settings, each progressively stiffer...

Bring leathers next time. I'll hold them while you're not wearing them. My car may only way just 1700lbs, but I'm sure I can handle another 20lbs in leather...
Flip was willing to do action shots, but it seemed everyone was ready to call it a day.

Some comments from wrxatlanta.com:
jayj713: that bike is sexy
pEd: I'm guessing that the motorcycle had to have been loud without a muffler.
flip: You know, I would have thought that too but it was actually really quiet! Don't know how he pulled that off. And yeah, it's a really nice bike !
sol drums: nice bike!

13 hours? How do you find time to eat, sleep, and most importantly :boobies: ?!?!?!?
That's absurd...last I pulled hours SIMILAR to that was when I worked two jobs. And went straight from school at 8am-330 to work at 4pm, and finally got sleep at 3am...back up at 8 for school again.

THAT'S WHAT WAS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE BIKE! I saw that pipe and was like "SOMETHING about that just doesn't look right..." but couldn't figure out what the hell it was! :tongue1: on you for not worrying about emissions.

that is actually not the muffler. that is just a slip on. the muffler is under the bike.

its kinda hard to see but look to the left of the pipe. where the pipe attaches. that is the muffler it square. they did that on this bike to get the weight lower and more centralized instead of having a big can hanging off the side of the bike. just shows how much of a race bike the new R6 is compared to other street machines

Thanks....it's actually from a R32 front end.......:ninja:
Did anyone else see that wreck on the way home? I know i left a few minutes later than most but on my way back just after leaving I saw a truck on the side of the road where the front end and door was so mangled the door would have been impossible to open and there was no way anyone was getting out of the window. No police or ambulances had goten there yet, and there were people lookin in the truck trying to help i guess. I passed all of the ambulances moments later... looked really bad :(.

Ok, someone posted these on wrxatlanta. I think it's pretty much the route we too. Might come in handy just in case...

Bucky, that's still an EVIL bike. How much are they running for the new ones out right now? I considered a bike. Mommy said if I ever did, she would dis-own me. Hypocrit used to rides bikes herself. That's how she met my dad...
Flip, those maps are accurate. Sorry I didn't get them posted before I took off for the weekend. The weekend was awesome. We destroyed some trails, made make-shift fuel pumps, and...it was just hella fun...
And I KNEW there was something different about that Jetta. I coouldn't figure out for the life of me what it was though. I just kept looking going "that's NOT right..."

they run around 9500 for that particular model. but if you want an entry used bike you can get them for around 3-5k. 50 mpg in a sport bike is nice.
