its ratching, you hold the black thing and it goes to the faster speed. its f*cking incredible you can drill with ease w/ this! you can get HELLA torque w/ it i just have no use for a screw driver like this.

ps it also switches from pistol grip to regular screw driver handle.

its real hard to explain w/o showing.

let me try. if you just hold the handle and turn it goes 1:1 for every revolution your hand makes the bit turns one time.

if you hold the black (chuck looking thing??) on the shaft then it will spin 3:1... the bit will turn three times for every one turn your hand makes?

make sense?
