How do you convert video to .flv?

Just as the title says. I am looking for some information for converting video formats to .flv file format.. I am talking about linux server-side file format conversion. So basically a user uploads from client to server and the app on the server converts from w/e format to .flv. I know about on2.com and jag video but I want to get around paying $4000. Post up if you are in the know. :goodjob:
