sump: for filteration. bactaria grows on the bio balls that changes your ammonia to nitrite then nitrate when water pases thru it. they are known for nitrate factories, therefore if you have a reef system, keep an eye on your nitrates. corals and some invertabrates doesnt torelate high nitrates. fishes can torelate high nitrates to an extent.

why would you add uncured live rock? uncured live rock is just to dirty IMO for cycling your tank. it makes a mess with all the debris on it.

I've never ran the remora. i run the coralife super skimmer untill i get my ASM skimmer. you should be fine without the sump. what filter do you run? also, thereeftank.com is not that great of a site. go to saltwaterfish.com/vb

what lights are you getting? you know that some corals need strong lighting right? I spent like $500 on some power compacts, and its not enough for corals. Cant wait to order my $1200 MH lighting system

Next time you do a water change black out the back of the tank so you dont see all those messy ass wires and it will look good man ...Just spray the back side of the tank flat or gloss black on the OUTSIDE not the inside !!!
A tank that small is a bit harder to maintain from what i hear but i started out with this 55g set-up about a month ago and then added a 40g as well ..It is addictive and i am already picking out a 175gallon tank to replace this 55g lol
