LOL So Im spending this 4th alone, so I decide to sit and ponder in the front yard with my camera hoping that someone might shoot something off. Our crappy neighbors didnt shoot jack shit off and all I got was this one from a neighborhood far away.

Im sure someone got better photos, but I tried!

Nikon D200 w/ 50mm f1.8
Exposure Time = 20"
F Number = F1.8
Exposure Program = Shutter priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 125

Even though I personally think they suck (because of the blurryness) let me know what you think.

My 4 best out of 80 weak attempts haha!

Here is my febble attempt from last night.

It started raining, so I had to put my stuff up before any grand finales.

I'm real green at trying to shoot fireworks, so I guess this is as good a place as any to ask:

Ok, I tried both long and short shutter releases, but shorter seemed to work the best. Problem I keep seeing, and you can tell in these pics, is that the white bal seems to be all out of whack. I tried shade, cloudy, auto, flash....nothing seemed to help the different color halos that seem to kinda shock the shots. I'm thinking that the exposure time had something to do with it more than white balance. Am I off? Any suggestions?

lmao! I was hoping to get some advice from you all! What I did was go to "Scene" and kinda copy what settings they had going for "fireworks" then I jumped to manual and played with the shutter as best as possible to get the better shots.

All except the first one I had a 4" shutter going. I pulled the first one down to around 1-1.5" if I remember right. That's why it turned out dark and I had to turn up the fill light and highlights on it a tad. All in all though, I got the same problems as you with the light shocks/glare. Your's turned out pretty good though!

I liked your shots actually. I liked the blue one the best. The colors are great.

I just realized something.....I was shooting with a long lens vs a short prime lens. Maybe I just had too short of a field of view and therefore I had to shorten the shutter speed to get anything which then limits the shot..... George? Brady? Matt? Jason? Anyone?
