I sent this out to everone on my region's announce list. A lot of it is taken from Road Atlanta's letter to the Atlanta Region SCCA. If anyone wants to cut and paste to some other forum or email list any or all of this please feel free and I don't care if my name stays in the message.

ROAD ATLANTA’S EXISTENCE IS UNDER AN IMMEDIATE THREAT AND I ASK ALL SCCA MEMBERS TO IMMEDIATELY EMAIL, WRITE, OR CALL THE HALL COUNTY COMMISIONERS LISTED BELOW BEFORE JUNE 19TH TO LET THEM KNOW JUST HOW IMPORTANT ROAD ATLANTA IS TO THE MOTORSPORTS COMMUNITY AND TO REITERATE ITS POSITIVE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON HALL COUNTY. ACT NOW.

An Atlanta Developer has contracted to purchase a tract of property off of Highway 211 that is directly adjacent to Road Atlanta. In fact, the property line is fifty feet from the actual race track along the Turn 9 backstretch. Nine acres will be reserved for commercial development and the remaining acreage will be developed into HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL. The project will be called the “Park at Riverside”.

Road Atlanta is one of the premier road racing circuits in North America if not the world. Its unique topography with its challenging elevation changes combined with a fast and flowing course design can not be duplicated on any other real estate. Since the 1970s Road Atlanta has operated with the protection of reasonable zoning that provided appropriate non-residential development around the track.

The current REQUEST TO CHANGE THE ZONING for this new project to allow residential development will no doubt lead to homeowner’s complaints, petitions for sound abatement or limited operating hours. This requested zoning change would seriously challenge Road Atlanta’s core business. Road Atlanta attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. According to Hall County’s own Visitor Bureau statistics, Road Atlanta contributes 53.5 MILLION DOLLARS a year to the Hall county economy alone. That is 27% of Hall County’s total tourism expenditures from visitors.

This project is up for review on JUNE 19TH with the Hall County Planning Commsion. Pleae help save an irreplaceable “institution” in Motorsports by contacting the Hall County Commissioners. If you have personally visited Road Atlanta, let them know how you spend your hard earned dollars in their county because of Road Atlanta.

***You guys can help by messaging the commissioners with your opposition of this hair brained idea to put a residential district next to the track which will essentially close down Road Atlanta. We can make a difference if we try. Thanks.

definate repost and it wont happen...guaranteed...all the racing companys around there get raped in taxes and if hall couunty wants to lose all the revenue the get from BBS, RA, lanier, panoz, mcmichael supersports(just to name a few) then they would be fucking themselves to make the measely property tax off ~200 houses IMO

Won't happen.

But to be on the safe side I think I'll still contact the commisioner.

I would suggest everone does it instead of assuming this will never happen, and therefore give them the opinion that no one cares.

that is why they create these meetings. It will never happen. I deal with this on a day to day basis being an engineer that works with residential developers. Road Atlanta will never close because of a residential development!!!!

just a lil heads up for you guys,

D.P. aka Don Panoz (the owner of R.A., ALL of the Panoz industries, Chateau Elan, etc.) has been thinking about selling Road Atlanta for a couple years now. In fact, he has been figuring up a pretty little price for Chateau Elan as well which he has been wanting to relocate to Australia for a while now. So could this happen?

Well, where I work at, we use Road Atlanta for a lot of test sessions and events and we have been getting the word that the closing down and selling of Road Atlanta will be happening REAL soon. I STRONGLY suggest that you guys send an email or two to these commissioners, seriously, as I have just finished doing.

The projected closing time and selling of our track is said to be coming up very soon after the Petit Le Mans. This race is a very important race and brings in a lot of revenue for Hall County. We must do something before this race, or set up some sort of petition or something before this. After the Petit Le Mans, the race season will slow down and that is when they are planning to tear it down. There is a lot of talk that a nice, gated, golf course community will be placed in the exact location of the track. WTF?!?!?

THIS WILL BE THE LAST Petit Le MAns AT ROAD ATLANTA IF WE ALL SIT STILL AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!

you just said it right there. If road atlanta is sold, whoever buys it can do whatever they want to it, but as you said that race brings in LOTS of revenue. Do you guys honestly believe hall county would be dumb enough to rezone that area to make property tax of 200 or so houses wheen they prolly make more than that from the businesses there that use road atlanta?? doubtful..

Yea that would be stupid on Hall county's part. All you need is a lil broke country town and you can go in and do what you want as long as you got tax money. Build them an economy and they will lick your ass. RA is going no where, if Hall County has anything to do with it.
