Thats freakin slick man! I really wana try building something. Can't think of anything to build tho. A bed is a great idea! I need one :). Maybe when you're done you could give some pointers on how to do it?

depends on how elaborate and which size you're thinking about. i wouldn't build this bed for less than 4 or 5 grand. its a queen.

sure man, tools are pretty important though, if you don't have a good set of tools, you're really limited in what you can do.

wow it looks great, solid wood posts huh? i feel bad for the people who have to move it when you move lol.

you are right about the tools thing..i miss woodworking i think those are the next tools im going to buy, when i lived w/ my folks i could build lots of things w/ my dad woodworking tools.

yeah, i'm considering making it movable in 8 pieces (posts and sides) rather than the traditional 4. the 3ft posts (short ones) weigh between 75 and 100 lbs a piece and 4.5ft ones weigh between 130 and 150 each. they aren't a lot of fun to move around, but i'm not gonna have to worry about them falling apart on me

Gotta have one hell of a room to fit that in and definitely built solid enough but my only concern is the lack of attachment points for the ropes and chains  :D

What color stain are you going with? Please don't say golden oak! For some reason i despise that color, a mahogony or cherry stain would be hot...

the color of stain i'm gonna use is called red mahogony... real dark with a red tint. also, i've definitely been considering some black midevil looking rod iron hoops mounted on the inside of the posts.

few more pics of today's progress.

Been sanding them and have taken a red stain and black and mixed it together for the same look.

if i have time, i plan on building the rest of the suite (two night stands, two dressers and a mirror housing) the same way and finishing it with the dark stain. i like the real stocky look as well. i also have some pretty cool ideas for my coffee tables and end tables, but those might have to wait a while. after i finish this, its time to paint the car. i've got a box full of house of kolor paint begging to be used.
