I think my MINI group is doing the Dragon this Sunday. Should be a good day, hopefully not too crowded. Once I see when and where the meeting places are, I'll decide which group I'm driving up with. A lot of them live far north of town so meeting might not be too easy.
I wish I could go but I have a Dragon run coming in July that I need to save and prepare for.
And when can we get a Sat group together!

It's just an expression, y'all.
If we go on a drive, a lot of people call it a "run". You can go for a mountain drive, a mountain run, a dragon drive, dragon run, whatever... it's not a big deal.

Just got back from the Dragon week before last... It was a blast! I hope you guys have fun!
There is a difference between a regular mountain run and a Dragon run. The mountain runs can be anywhere (including on the dragon I guess) while the Dragon run is on a particular road I linked above.
So when I say Dragon run, I mean going up to the Tail of the Dragon while a mountain run can be anywhere (though I don't refer to trips to the dragon as a mountain run) in the mountains.
For me, a mountain run is usually a 1 day affair while the Dragon runs are a weekend plus thing for me (it takes like 3 hours to get there though you drive through the N GA mountains to get there like through Neel Gap and over blood mountain)...
That's my take on it anyway!

I've been to the Dragon more than a few times. It's been nearly a month now since my last time so I've got the itch. I've done it in one day plenty of times and spent as much as 5 days at Fontana Village.
The Dragon is a place and some people say run, some say drive... whatever.
We discussed this a few weeks ago but a lot of people said it was too far for them. To me, it's worth it and I'll be there one way or another.
Yeah, I agree but for those who say it's too far, that's why I make it a weekend thing. Once you go, you can't get mountain runs, especially the Gap, out of your system.

Go to the website that is linked on the previous page.
I want to go... only thing that would stop me is if I end up going to Summit Point weekend after this one. If I'm going to the track, I need to be kind to my tires and wallet.
so are you guys going to the Dragon then? Why not wait and join some Preludes and NSX's at the Gap on July 13-16?

Shite! I live for the mountain twisties!... sucks I can't do much on Sundays though - Saturday and I'm all over it... maybe even on a Sunday if there's a decent crowd... only problem is that if there are too many people, you attract the fuzz

sorry to leave you guys hangin...i just got in from a day a drift fury
meeting place is gonna be up 400, past the outlets, i'll just declare it out front of the home depot to make it easy (anyless anyone has a reason why that wouldn't work)...there was mention of McD's but that may confuse some people, i'd hate for someone to sit at the wrong place waiting...
what you guys think of 10 AM???
this is all weather pending of course...weather channel says scattered showers pretty much all day, grrrr

It's raining right now in Atlanta, anyone up north? The rain's pretty heavy here. Anyway, whats the exit that the home depot is off of. Last time I couldnt find it, I think I went all the way to exit 17. Also, is my sig showing? Cuz I cant see it
chuck
06-24-2006, 10:42 PM
no rain here in lawrenceville, but we've still got 11 hours before we leave...i'll put up a map to the home depot in a minute
and your sig says - I'm everywhere, you aint never there.
go here (http://forums.importatlanta.com/profile.php?do=editoptions) and make sure the box saying 'show signatures' is checked.
HvyArms
06-24-2006, 10:49 PM

just www.maps.google.com 801 Highway 400 S, Dawsonville, GA 30534 for the meeting place...its the home depot by the outlet malls on 400, just north of 53 and 400.
~The_Duke~
06-24-2006, 11:03 PM
The home depot is crazy easy to find...drive past ext 17 going north and then it is the first and only home depot on your right...
JennB
06-24-2006, 11:08 PM
I don't think I'm gonna be out there. Next weekend is vacation and a drive to get there.. ugh.
I do keep laughing though about how much of a big deal is made out of finding the Home Depot. Easiest directions to get there: Go North on 400... that's it... just go, don't turn, just drive. At the end there will be shops, restaurants and... Home Depot.
Guess not everyone goes up that way very often but going up 19 is my favoritve way to get to the Dragon.
chuck
06-24-2006, 11:31 PM
to anyone interested...this is more of a north east-central georgia run than a dragon run...a lot closer to home and a nice change of scenery around the lake...
and i love going fast, don't get me wrong...but if any of you guys think we're racing or drifting or something like that tomorrow then please just stay home...i want x cars going and x cars coming back, no highschool crap...in short, if one of you f'rs hit me because you're trying to do something stupid then i'm gonna be pissed, lol
see you all in the mornin...10a

i didn't really plan it, BUT, i'm not big on the 10-15+ car mtn. runs...the spur of the moment ones seem to have a good number of people for me. hell, last week it was me and black paper diary...that was it, haha...we were gonna go cruise blood mountian and ended up all the way at deals gap! ha

well myself, duke, joe and tsukaki (i'm sure thats wrong) civic all headed up around 10:30 this morning...drove about 30, pulled over, looked at a wall of rain ahead and decided to just call it a day. too much of a PITA to try to dodge rain clouds all day.
saw a big group, probably 10-15, of mustangs led by a viper heading up on our way back down, joe gave chase...lemme know how it turned out
HvyArms
06-25-2006, 12:44 PM
Drove on 400n pass the Outlets til I saw the Home Depot. Got there at about 9:50. Waited a few minutes, went to Chevron to fuel up, got back to Home Depot at 10:00.
Waited in my car there, read a little classwork, sat. At this point it's 10:20 and I decided to leave, but not before stopping to talk with a Home Depot employee.
Me: Hey, um, I was wondering...is there another Home Depot somewhere around here? Like, maybe south on 400? Or is this the only one in the area? :say no damnit..you better say no!:
Him: Yeah there's one south of here, maybe about ten miles. You cant really see the sign from the street but it's directly across from an Outlet. It's up on a hill. So head south, and the Home Depot will be on your left.
Me: Yeeeah, thats where I'm supposed to be.
Some other guy: If you missed it the first time, you may miss it this time too. Just remember it's on the left.
Me: Thanks. :grrrr MUTHAFUK!!!:
By now it's 10:27, and I'm driving on 400 doing 90, cursing at the lights and it took me about 10 minutes to get there. Pulled into the lot....no ones there.
So anyway I left, on the way back I saw that same group of Domestics with the yellow viper and all the Mustangs. I cant believe I got lost 2 times in a row. I swear to God I can read. WTF
joecoolfreak
06-25-2006, 01:37 PM
I want to thank Chuck for trying to organize this one and we will just have to make it work out next time. Btw...HvyArms, on the way back I did see that mustang and viper group and decided to follow them for a while. They were mostly an older group and they stopped in Helen, so I decided to wander around a bit myself at that point. Don't feel bad, as you didn't miss too much today.

Ironic...but I never saw any rain while I was up there. I stayed up there till about 1pm and then came back. As soon as I made it near Atlanta, it started raining.
