I've got the Canon A300, it's a good camera in my opinion. Doesn't cost very much either. For examples just check out my page, all the pics were taken with it (except of course the dyno sheet, that was scanned), and I'm a novice, so the settings are all factory. From what I've heard, the A300 is one of the best dig cams without digital zoom, which is why it doesn't cost much. I believe mine was just under $200 and that was almost 2 years ago.

it mainly depends on how much you want to spend. i'm pushing $2k in my nikon D70 setup and absolutely love it, however D-SLR's (and that type of price) aren't really necessary if you just wanna take the occasional pic. i haven't done tons of research on non SLR's, but www.dpreview.com has tons of good info and is definately worth checking out before you buy anything.

Shit for the price range off 250 to 400 can't beat a Minolta Dimage z1 or z2...
UNless you want to play with the bigboys you can get something bigger... I love my z1... it has much more potential also..

I've always had Olympus and they take some great pics. I have a Canon A500 and it does well too. I just like the different settings that the Olympus' offers over most other models the same price.
