Hey guys, I have a little problem on my hands. As some of you may or may not have noticed I haven't posted any pictures in sometime, even though I attend and take pictures at many events. I periodically get PMs from people whom I met at the Varsity asking "where are the shots of my car? ect, ect, ect..." Anyway, here's the problem;

When I plug the DSLR (Cannon Digital Rebel XT) into the computer, the supplied Cannon software opens the wrong application (CameraWindow, instead of CameraWindowDSLR). Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a way to get my camera to connect to my computer. Specifically the way I used to get images when the problem first started was by using Cannons supplied program (ImageBrowser) and then launching the "Cannon Camera" from there. That used to resolve the issue, but not any more. Now the camera at no point recognizes (it reads busy on the camera display, but nothing happens) that it's plugged into a computer. Until I find a way to fix this piece of shit computer, I'm stranded without the ability to upload pictures to my computer.

The computer is an older (slower than sloths shit) iMac G4 with 768MB of RAM, running OS ver. 10.2.8.

Note: The Cannon disk that came with the camera was broken by my brother or one of his hundreds of friends that visit my house on a daily basis.

Any ideas? Specifically constructive ideas that could resolve the issue.

Damn, Robbie I was wondering where you were. I dont have a canon nor an apple so I cant help, but im sure Matt will be able to help out maybe?

You cant just access the card directly and move the files?

I would if the comp. had a card reader, but this computer is an ancient artifact, and a little behind the times so it lacks the newer nescessities.

Robbie, I can make you a copy of the disc if you need it. One question, does the ancient comp have usb?

I don't know too much about macs but you could uninstall you canon programs and try reinstalling them....canon should have for d/l on their site.

Yeah it takes a CF card. Thats what I was thinking is just get a card reader and plug it into the USB and you are back in business

open up system prefs then under the CD/DVDs pane click what to do when a camera plugs in and choose your app... if thats not working you can give me a pm. I have been an apple man for years and know my way around it pretty well

I had no idea card readers were so cheap... I figured they'd be somewhere in the $100+ dollar range... I guess I'm a little behind the times, I just ordered a CF reader so I'll be back photowhoring it up in no time.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I would just get a card reader. I have an iMac g5 and i just got a macbook pro. I have Apeture so i plug it up and it reads the pictures in RAW so im not to sure what is wrong. Try asking on mac-forums.com they will help you out.

his imac woun't run aperature... but iPhoto works great for catalogging photos... then just send them to photochop when iPhoto becomes underpowered...
