I have a set of pioneer 6x9's brand new. Hooked up an amp to them for mids. Used it for a couple of weeks. Then one of them started rattling. Speaker is not busted or anything like that. Everytime a bass note hits it rattles, what the hell is wrong with it? I even tried hooking it up to the regular radio and it still makes that distorting (sp) noise like it is busted. Any info would help.

Also. What causes a speaker to blow? Is it the amp?

dunno, i kept blowin 5-1/4s with my deck for no reason, so i wouldnt want to say too much power, im not too sure, at least its a free exchange so i wouldnt worry bout it

clipping the amp is one of the easiest ways to blow any speaker. Without knowing your listening habits or seeing the settings on the amp I couldnt say for sure though.

Try swapping for a set of 2 ways, the more little speakers you get, the easier it is for one to pop and ruin the whole thing,Also, generally speaking a 2 way is sonicly better than a 4 way coaxial, ESPECIALLY if you want ANY low bass from them (100 HZ and below)

it may also be that the speaker itself is loose, i would look at the simple less expensive stuff first before getting drastic

how sure are you that the rattling is coming from the speaker itself. It may be something that got loose due to the harder hitting than usual and now its just resonating whenever it hits that certain frequency. It may not be blown man lol

Because he says "I even tried hooking it up to the regular radio and it still makes that distorting (sp) noise like it is busted."

THAT would make me lean toward the speaker being blown.... (I had to re-read it too to make sure...) :)

Distortion is what is going to blow a speaker, as b@d @pple says...or "clipping" as it was called by BanginJimmy.
