Ok, I have a Dell 2300 or something, it has a Celeron 1.8ghz, 128mb ram, 80gb hd, sound blaster card, stock video card, etc.

I want to play some flying games, like Flight Simulator 2000, or something like a sim. My computer though is slow as hell the screen is choppy like move pause move pause, you get the point.

If I upgrade to a better video card, and add more ram, would that be good? Or is the celeron just crap for it? Any input on any of it greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Simon

128mb of ram? u can barley start windows with that :D

between ram and graphics card ur gonna spend more than the system is worth. Maybe find a used system somewhere?

But ram will make a world of difference. 128 is pathetic, 512 is the bare minimum these days for just running the operating system.

Whats ur upgrading budget? I mean that proc with 1gb ram and a old decent card might run FS2000 on low settings.

best way to upgrade

go to fry's

get the amd Athlong 64 3000+ with ECS motherboard for 100

Get this video card
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=190818

and get this ram

http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?zipCode=30022&jspStoreDir=Staples&catalogId=10051&productId=100196&cmArea=SEARCH&errorUrl=zipcode&krypto=mfxq1nTSMWh0shUQOLdqejr6zGQ2Y8NL&prodCatType=1&ts=1149308973466&langId=-1&storeId=10001&ddkey=StaplesZipCodeAdd

Your HD should work with the mobo as well as ur case, keyboard, dvd, cd etc etc. You may need a new powersupply but those can be like 30-50 more only.

Enjoy

well update got a geforce 4000 video card, works pretty good i can play games now without it being so choppy, going to get some ram tommorow, hopefully it will be enought to let me play some. im not getting new games, i have Formula One 2000, Super Hornet, Orbiter, Indy Car Series, and going to try and find FS2K, all the ones I have run fast right now on high settings. The F1 game slows a tad at the start of a race I guess because of all the other cars and stuff. I know Celeron sucks.

The video card isn't onboard is it?

I found memory for my old 1.0 Duron overclocked to 1.3ghz on eBay several years ago, two 512MB sticks for less than $50 each new....Using Windows 2000 Pro I could restart and load all processes in 11 seconds flat.

was just thinking.. couple years ago i bought a 1.7 celeron from Admin. I put a graphics card in it and 768mb of ram. and it ran FS2000 decently... Cant remeber what card, but that post by DemonEYez is a good post. I would go that route and see what happends.

I might have part of my rig for sale soon :D upgrading to 1900XT and AMD X2 4200 and some other goodies. So my 64 3200 adn 850XT is goin to be wasting space, maybe.
