Had a good time as usual. Some really nice cars and nice people (except for the mother fucker that honked at me for walking and tried to start a fight about it lol). It was good meeting all the new people. For the people that I got pics of your cars, I should have them up by tomorrow, and I might have a few up tongight...

Yea had a great time, alittle drama going on, but other than that, saw some great cars! And had lots of fun. Def don't think i'll be attending anymore for awhile, since I'll be waking up at 5:30am everyday now to get to work :( But hopefully I'll make it out again eventually!

How do you deal with those HORRIBLE lights in the dark? It was really difficult for me to get pics that werent' either yellow or blueish...

what horrible lights are you talking about?
were you shooting with the xt? if you dont have a tripod, you can try setting the camera down on the ground or somewhere thats not going to move. flash doesnt really help that much imo... as you can see in the red bimmer shot, i used the flash, but it only goes so far.
another thing is to raise your ISO, and open the aperture up to let in as much light as possible, but your best bet is to use a tripod and use a long shutter.

my first time being at one of the v meets got 2 deals done and looked at some sick ass cars and as my friend tracy got fucking GANGSTA on somebody named speed monkey or somthing that shit was nuts right when i started trying to back up , they were right begind my hatch lol it was fkin cool TRACY IS A GANGSTA and is cool as hell lol Bad ass will go next time

Once is started to rain all the dumbass's started to do burn outs a BMW nearly hit a parked car trying to drift through the wet. My highlight was when the guy reving his Escalade EXT broke the transmission trying to do a burnout as he left. Had to push it out of the street.

FYI i was conversing with a cop and the word from him is that ATL PD hates the varsity meet. so for all the ricers and assholes this is your official im gonna be a nice guy and warn you before you go to jail or kill someone. also for the asshole in the 240 who almost wrecked, grow up before u ruin it for the others. and for the dude in the kitted out escalade who blew his tranny trying to burn out, ROFL!!!! thanks for the entertainment guys. im sure there were cool people there but i couldnt find you guys amongst the sea of assholes.

Naw, i have a Nikon D50, and i do use a tripod. I'm talking about the florurecet lights... If i'm shooting at a strange angle from them sometimes they make my pics look almost cloudy with yellow light... I rarely use the flash at all unless i'm shooting people...

Thanks man! Some blocked my car too... I didn't realize until it was too late but I had my phone on silent the whole time :(. I text messaged george shortly before i left but didn't hear back, guess i should have called one of you guys... I'll have to find him next time. Sucks that you almost hit someone. flip - as dumb as this may sound, but do you have an option to set the WB to flourescent lighting? or maybe use a lense hood / shoot in RAW so you can fix it in photoshop?
im still not 100% sure of what you are experiencing exactly (maybe a pic or two would help)

I'll have to upload the pics before i talk too much because i got good few of them to turn out good. I tried a few different white ballances, i did use flourescentmostly but from the preview screen they looked a tad bluish...lense hood might be a good idea, and i am going to shoot a few in raw and see what i can do...
Yeh, i'll post some pics when i upload them, i know of 2 thatw ould be good examples
it just like if i taking a pic where one of those lights was over and behind the car it would turn out funny..

Dude the one getting on to 75. That's the one i slide around. It was more of a fuck up but i acted like i meant to do it, lol. I don't know why but the traction control was off and the ground was wet and i made a sudden turn cuse i didnt know the turn was that close. It was fucking scary when it was happening and after it was kinda cool.

Set your white balance for night or flourescent, or get a gray card and do an auto white balance. Cop a copy of Photoshop CS2 because Camera Raw 3.4 has pretty good WB auto correction. Without a flash you'll be shooting ISO 800 or 1600 on a tripod. Get an F2.8 or lower lens too.

I can see why it would bug them.... but it would be nice if they did something like keep the area around Underground safe on weekends or get the homeless people off of Peachtree street before they run all of the tourism out of the city or any of the other 500 things that are hurting the city more than the Varsity meet.

I had never attender this Varsity meet until last night. It was a great meet with an incredible turn out.
I missed the escalade burning out and blowing his tranny, I would have loved to catch that on film. I saw the biker guy doing his burn out, that was about it. It was pretty cool and civil for the most part, no body really acting up (atleast not till they got out of the parking lot).
Great Meet, and ATL have some nice cars to show off!

It definitely has changed a lot.. when I first went you could fit all of the cars in the show on the upper parking deck.
The problems at the Varsity meets aren't with the quantity of people. The problems are with the quality of the people.
Like somebody else said in this thread, school is out. Which means, all the new blood is out and getting Mommy and Daddy to buy them a turbocharged car just like they saw in a movie. The result is the irrisponsible people you see. As for the older people that carry themselves like that...grow the fuck up.

Last time i shot with 1600 iso my pics were really grainy... I don't think i'd shoot over 400 or 800...
Any suggestions on lenses? I am using the one that came with the camera however the one that did come with it was supposedly a little better than the normal one. Its a quantaray 28-90. I'd like a better lense but don't really have a ton of cash to spend on it...
F woudl be F stop right? Thats the number on the ring on the very back of the lense? If thats so it looks like it only goes down to 3.5.

Also what is the functional difference between a lense with a lower F and one with a higher F?

the higher the fstop (ie 2.8, 2.0) the faster the lense is... but usually is more expensive.
