Well i was replacing the valve cover gasket and did a valve adjustment and noticed that my camshafts looked like they were gouged out of something. It looks like they were ground down in some spot but not on purpose. Its all rough and jaggy. My question is, whats wrong with it? or is it supose to be like that? Here are some pics...

its possibly casting marks or were they are balanced?? lol. as long as its not on the cam lobes themselves or on the areas that make contact with the cam bearings i wouldnt be concerned.

i cant remember alot on the LS cams. IIRC, that is def not normal.
As long as there is no wear on the Cam lobes themselves then you shoulf be fine. However, they should be eaten up like that. is there a cam cover that goes over that spot? is there is inspect it for the same wear marks.
possibly someone over TQed it before?
need better pics too

Those pics are prob. the best i can get...cant use flash cause it just bounces right off and you cant see the spot. No there is nothing covering it. I did check the lobes and it didnt seem to have the wear on them. I dont have time to get better pics now cause i gotta head out to my apartment in a sec. I'll get better pics on thursday.
