A family of three children and two adults were struck by a vehicle at a McDonald's restaurant in Covington, Georgia.
Covington-Newton County police say that the driver has been taken into custody, and that the victims have been taken to a local hospital.
Lanny Barnes, 36, was in custody and charges against him were pending, Covington Assistant Police Chief Almond Turner said.
"All indications are that he intentionally hit them," Turner said.
Barnes has had mental difficulties, his mother, Mary, told The Associated Press.
"He's been suffering with depression for years," she said, her voice shaking after being told by a reporter what happened. "Lord have mercy."
The restaurant is located near the intersection of US 278 and Baker Street NE.
*Note* This sick fucker repeatedly ran over this poor family. Witnesses said he was smiling as he drove over and then backed over this family, over and over again.
