Not if the sportbike rider knows what he's doing. I've followed some of the Motards around on some of the mountain trips just because if they're good its pretty cool to watch them. I'll drift the corners in my car but try to keep the rear planted most of the time on the bike. Here's my 04 SV650S. GSXR 600 suspension and brakes, GPR full exhaust, Fairings, flush mount turn signals, plenty of other stuff you can see. And a pic of me before I left for a mountain trip this spring.

Yes, I would bet it would. I can WALK from bikes in my Miata, and that bike looks nimble.

What you don't realize is that you will drive harder in a car on the street than a bike because the margin for error is higher. If you slide around in the car or hit a bit of gravel nor harm done, if I do on a mountain I'm most likely going to get seriously hurt or die. Unless the bike is on very sticky tires a properly setup car can corner faster in most cases. I left many bikes in my miata as well but I know why.

I was talking about sport bikes. I'm sure you can keep up with a bike in your cute little miata around tight corners. It is a known fact that cars corner faster than bikes. I don't meen to hate on that bike, I'm sure that it is a ton of fun. But I would #$@% my pants if it could go over 130. It only has about 50 hp and weighs about 300lbs with a full tank. A 450f would be way faster cause they have a little bit more power and weigh about 230lbs. It's a sweet bike but your not going to kill a sport bike maybe beat one for a little bit in really tight stuff but not kill it. They say it's something like 85% rider 15% bike so you could be the man and kill one cause their not as good as you.
And Simon I was just joking around about miatas calling them cute, I know what there all about, my dad owns one and a few friends of mine do also. I wish I could get one...:(
Later guys

As we've said, its all a matter of who's on the seat, not as much what's under the seat.

I also included a pic of how the GSXR looked before I worked on it. It was crashed at Barber earlier this year.

Poor 3g is slowly falling apart :( Rust is spreading, clearcoat peeling, rear caliper leaking, front end out of alignment, tires bald (RF is a racing slick due to alignment), front rotors warped, PS hose leaking. No $$ to do anything since I've been out of a job for the past 2 months. But hopefully soon I can get her back into better shape again, then I'll bring her out... maybe. Aside from the narrow/tall screen it looks much more like a sport bike now than a sport touring bike. I've got a few other power mods that end up with about 150whp but otherwise it will be pretty much what it is now. I use it as a DD in anything about 40 degrees or more, even in the rain plenty of times. My last Suzuki got over 11k on it during the year I owned it and this one has 1500 so far and I've only had it about 2 months.

Most of the guys running the setup I'm slowly getting to run the 1/4 about the same as an R1. It will never handle quite as well but since I refuse to take this one to the track it handles as well as I ever need it to on the street.

75S towards Hiawassee? I ride Unicoi to Helen, and Blood, and Wolf Pen ALOT. Once it stays warm a few days we need to get a group ride together. No real riding down that way. I'd rather meet somewhere where we could go cruise some twistie roads at a "moderate" pace after we eat and chill. Say Helen, then we could hit Unicoi to 180 take that out to Blood/Wolf Pen.

I'd wait a couple more weeks. Still a little salt/gravel left up here from the last snow, and I'm sure it will cool off again before long. Usually the 1st of March is pretty nice, by mid March it's usually great riding weather.

Good deal. My bike should be ready so long as my rings aren't fried. Just got my bike two days ago and the guy didn't mention anything about it being low on oil. It didn't register what the oil level window was until I looked online. My CBR didn't have that window to my knowledge.

My 2001 Intruder 1400. It's not the best at anything but comfortable, smooth, and surprisingly quick. Crazy torque, will take off in any gear, no matter RPM.

TBH - what I really want is an original Honda naked bike (hawk gt / cb-1 / Hornet 599), or a supermoto but this was a family gift/heir and having a bike to ride is better than not!

Got it with a RS-3, powder coated wheels, and a holographic looking huge windscreen.

Now it's lowered with Vortex links, windscreen is painted until I can order the one I want, and got the underside painted satin black from off-white.

Next up is a real tag mount and windscreen.

Fender hitting isn't the problem. Speed wobble, loss of stability at speed, etc.

If you ever get up to speed you'll notice a reduced lean angle, there isn't much of a difference other than that when lowering just the rear.

1. How is it lugging that thing around the city? I'm just curious is it hard to maneuver tight turns etc.

I'm right at 6' and can't quite flat foot on my R1... but I don't lack enough that I feel unsafe or lack confidence. If I lowered mine I would most definitely end up losing too much lean angle, I'm close enough already.

You can adjust the peg height with the Vortex sets. He's running stock pegs. You may lose a little comfort, but be able to take tight turns at faster than 45.

I like to consider them more of a Super Sport Touring bike than a Sportbike. They make AWESOME touring machines, and don't have the ride of handling characteristics of a typical sportbike; not saying they handle bad by any means, just arent AS responsive. I see several Busa's up here (including the one at the shop) owned by older men who use them for touring machines.

Well, got it cleaned up but forgot the camera, so I'm just gonna post of the previous owner's pics

Honda Hawk GT (NT650)
- 650cc Twin
- Single sided swing-arm
- Aluminum perimeter frame
- Same age as I am (1988)!

The clip-ons are not the factory ones, but they did come with factory clips ons that have more of a rise to them. I'm getting those back on as well as the stock mirrors. Bar end mirrors just don't work too well for me.

The bike's also got CBR F2 gen. front forks for adjustability and CBR900RR rear clicker shock. Rides great! Very agile and thin, small. 370 lbs dry and close to 400 wet.

Wheels were powder coated black which w/e lol.. A bike wayyy ahead of it's time - first production bike w/a Single-sided swing and got raced like mad back in the day.

You do realize the new 1340 Busa's can dip into the 9's with just slip on's and a PC don't you? They are insane bikes, and I've NEVER seen a 10R turn those numbers stock.

A new Busa wet weight is right around 543lbs, a dry 2007 ZX-10R is near 410. The ZX10R puts around 155whp stock, the Busa we have at the shop dynoed at 202whp bone stock. Once you figure up they are the absolute most chocked up stock bike built and by changing out the exhaust to most aftermarket single can setups drop around 22lbs on them you begin to see a big difference in power to weight ratio.

Eh, proper rider and track conditions, but the newer Busa's can get down there with pretty much anyone who can hold one upright.

Really dirty in the pic, still need to wash it. Shortened the Yoshimura. Ordering some stuff this weekend, pics once they're in and installed.

Much better.

If anyone wants to get into a cruiser, a guy that works with me works for Cycle Specialty in Fayetteville has a '99 Yahama V-Star 650 for less than $2000. I'd scoop it up if I didn't have a car note.

Not a bad price, but if you're ever planning on riding a passenger a 650 will be on the small side. I wouldn't go smaller than an 1100 personally.

Really like the shorty look!

So when do we get ia together for a weekend ride? I know code's gotem but they leave from Murphy, NC..

I heard from a guy last summer that groups leave from BP Gwinnett on Tuesday, or Thurs. or somethin.. But I didn't think that was ia guys.. besides I wanna ride, not drool over parked bikes.

So who's gonna ride out? I'm thinkin it should start between Atl and N. Metro and make it to Helen. That's like an hour - 1.5

If you go down at any reasonable speed, your knees are going to get tore up, with or without jeans. Jeans are not tough enough, unless they are kevlar-reinforced. You'll still be going to the hospital.
Come out to Malibu tonight and look at Mike's knees. He went down in jeans 2 months ago. He is the guy with the yellow 911.
I ride in jeans sometimes. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm just saying don't kid yourself. Any jeans other than Draggin' Jeans aren't going to do anything about protecting you.

Yup, I highsided once wearing jeans and tennis shoes. Jeans got ripped to shreds and both of my shoes flew off from tumbling. Luckily I was wearing a good leather jacket and helmet because I initially landed on my shoulder/face. The force or the impact sufficiently graded the skin off my shoulder through the jacket, But it would have been horrible without it.

I declined an ambulance trip and went home to try to clean the gravel out of my feet/legs, but by the next day I knew I needed medical attention because areas around my abrasions were becoming increasingly red. Got some antibiotics and healed up eventually.

The whole ordeal sucked really bad, but I still ride in jeans, I just try not to crash :goodjob:

I can't afford to crash. Repairing my bike might financially break me....

It will be about a month or so. Gotta get with Chad to find out when he is good and then go from there.

Yeah gear is the definitely worth it's weight in gold when you go down. I have a textile jacket, armored overpants (with jeans under them), and boots on everytime I leave the house. May not be as good as full leathers, but definitely better than jeans and a tee shirt.

Dress for the fall; not for the ride.
