I have a 97 civic with a b18b motor in it. Full built minus the head. All i have in the head is cam gears. I was wondering if I stay with the LS head or go to a Vtec head. Which one is more reliable? How much of a gain will I get with a Vtec head. What Vtec head should I put on my car?

Thanks for all info!

The ls/vtec setup will require quite a bit of work to be reliable.. youre already boosted, stick with ls head!

Yea honestly, if i remember right ur dad just bought u ur car correct? If ur already boosted then stick with the LS. If u must do a vtec head, u will need a GE ls-vtec conversion kit, a Vtec head ( GSR if ur gonna do it..), the head needs to have one of the dowel holes on the bottom welded or plugged, Then u have to do a bunch of other shit. There are alot of threads on this but to do it, ALREADY being boosted u will spend ALOT of money. It may require alot of alteration to ur turbo set-up too.

If boosted just stick with the ls head

stick with the ls man, going ls/vtec will take a bit of work, not really that hard but the setup you have now is fine. Plus if you were to do ls/vtec then I would suggest a pr3 head (b16/b18c5) instead of using a p72 (b18c1). You might run into a little more problems with a p72 head, but just stick with the ls boost.

Why does it matter which type of head you get? As long as you're still gettin head, it's all good!:D /joke

considering you havent dynoed the car locally yet (to my knowledge) i would see what it makes. you should be able to pump out 350whp on a stock LS head an cams an intake manifold. we have done it on a non sleeved LS motor with rods an pistons, our Turbo Dave manifold, T3/T4 turbo.

IF the motor runs good i see no need to rip it apart for a VTEC head. Get a better turbo manifold, 403 cams an springs an retainers.

vtec head will flow better so it will net higher hp, im talking about stock vs stock. now if you have the money you can get a ls head like iloveboost's ls head.

better flowing head= more hp

your boosted already thats great besides even if i had a vtec motor sooner or later ill be thinking about turning off the the vtec....(more torque) besides you wont be needing vtec when your pushing alot of power:goodjob:

thats just the thing... vtec will result in higher hp because the head would flow such more IMO.. yes vtec and none vtec will make power no doubt, but, how much more $$ will you need to spend on a none-vtec motor to make the same that is the question....

easy answer vtec head is better especially with turbo. and these guys are fucking retarded when you build ls/vtec b16 heads are better they flow better. thats what i used on my ls/vtec build and i used a golden ls/vtec kit and arp headstuds. the golden eagle kit comes with a headgasket but i would not recomend using it. i used a greddy one and it was nice.
