My amp is wired as you normally would wire one. Got the power wire going from amp to battery with the inline fuse-block. Got a ground in the trunk. Since the amp is straight to the battery, does that mean it is always on? Even when the car is off?

Reason I am asking is because my amp turns off a lot. And sometimes, it doesn't come on when I turn my car on. Any ideas? Later, QD.

no besides ground and power your amp should have what is called a remote turn on wire. its a thin wire. what a remote turn on does is on side is on the amp the other side is to the radio when you turn the ignition on or when ever or whoever u turn ur radio on the remote turn is powerd and alowes the amp to turn on. some ppl refer to this as a ignition wire.

Ahh. Ok. So why would my amp keep shutting down all the time? Thanks for the response. Later, QD.

If it's shutting down in mid-use then it sounds like either a bad ground or a loose/intermediate connection...

As far as a loose connection; turn on the system and kinda fiddle with the connections, don't yank em out but just see if you get any change in the on vs. off situation...

As far as a bad ground; make sure you're groud wire to chassis connection is free of any paint or rust...if you starve your amp of a good ground, most will shut themselves off to prevent damage.

Lemme know if it's neither of these...hate to say, but there is always the chance that something is wrong with the amp.

sounds like a bad ground to me, remote wire is usually a blue or blue/white 16awg wire from the radio to the amp.

Do you have a switch or relay between the amp and battery or just the fuse?

yeah, you'll def need that remote wire to tell it when to turn on/off.

and id agree with the grounding issue.
