E85 Ethanol

I hear its about $2/gal in Chicago.. and their gas prices are a little higher than ours the last time I was there.

Man I would run that in the civic. Not for performance, only cause its cheaper.

it may be similar to toulene, has good octane rating and price, but is dangerous to handle and will fuck some stuff up if its not made for it

All it really is is a very potent moonshine, wonder does that mean you can make it at home? Did a little research and found that Ethanol has about 69% of the energy output that regular gasoline has BUT pure ethanol has an octane rating of about 110. Interesting stuff..

is this that flexfuel stuff that some GM vehicles were made for? if so i think that the fuel system has to have some sort of special seals that are resistant to the properties of the ethanol, and something about it takes a lot more of it (like the injectors have to flow a lot more) than for gas to run properly...if this isn't the same stuff oops.

That is exactly it, in Brazil I believe it is Ethanol is just as common as regular gasoline and GM makes 90% of their cars compatible there. It does require bigger injectors and on some older cars it wouldn't work at all (which pertains to the seals you are talking about with the fuel system)
