Let me start off saying that i have a broken pinky and i probably shoudn't be racing, but thats no excuse for missing 3rd.
So its about 9:30pm on Sunday and my girlfriend and i are traveling down the Newnan Bypass. All of a sudden a older 300zx ( Z31 bodystyle ) pulls up next to me and starts reving. So he drops down and i drop down to 2nd and we go. I start to pull on him and then as i am shifting to 3rd i miss and go directly out of gear. We both slow down and his passenger sticks his hand out the window and shakes it back and forth as if my car is ok.
So i roll down my window and i tell him my finger is broke and that i'm having a hard time shifting. And i ask him if he wants to go again. He says yes and we turn off into an undeveloped neighborhood. Since we both had a passenger i tell him that on the third honk we go. He says ok and i start honking.
On the third honk we both launch and right away i start to pull on him. By the end of 1st i am about 1 car length ahead. So i slam 2nd gear. At the end i am 2 1/2 to 3 car lengths ahead so i shut it off ( at approx. 55mph ). I know i wasnt going that fast but a curve was comming up so there was no point to keep going.
After the race he pulls up next to me and gives me the thumbs up. We depart shortly after.
