So Iran tested its new Torpedo and they are using it to try and scare the US and other countries into thinking they got this "New" amazing technology. This article i found talks about the Torpedo and its original design as a Russin torpedo in the 60s and 70s. Its a long article but it breaks down the myth of this so called "Super Torpedo".

One thing never examined was the possibility of it being a two stage weapon, meaning a torpedo w/ a more traditional propulsion method and supercavating rocket 2ndary propulsion. This would negate the ability to to track the launch vessle by assuming where the distinct rocket and cavating sound signature originated must be where the torpedo was launched. The rocket may be powered by a liquid form of a gas, and as such would have the capacity to run a more traditional prop drive powered by compressed gas, alltho this is noisy, it would give a sonar signal more like a traditional torpedo, and the opposing vessle would react as such. This would extend the speculated range of 4-5 miles considerably, and given the understimation of the weapon it would pose a much greater threat than originally assesed. If this is the case, as the distance travled by the torpedo increased the effective range of the 2ndary rocket would decrease. But designing it a fashion to drive the prop with a power source independant of the rocket would change that. Now if they can truly mask the sound signal, with a quite primary propulsion system, electric, and only create a detectible sound signal when the 2ndary kicked in, they could launch, then stgage the torpedos away from the launch vessle before using the rocket propulsion. The assessmment in the link was flawed, incomplete, and full of one sided assumptions, never understimate the enemy.

Not true. They may have had comparable technology during the cold war, but that time has passed.

this is assuming that their ship is still floating to shoot the torpedo
