Im looking for a decently fast, cheap labtop to do nothing more than run a standalone EMS system. It doesnt have to be fancy or look the coolest as long as it isnt old or gonna crash. Prefer something with at least windows 2K. around 400mhz and 128megs. What would you guys recommend looking at?

Thanks for all the help.

Im looking for a laptop too....but i need a nice one, Going off to school. My dad is a computer nerd and he will buy nothing other than a dell. So i am getting a dell. I know apple does student discounts. Best buy has some other adds in the sunday paper, they have some hibachi or some other companies that go pretty cheap. Check it out tomorrow.

best laptop buy would be an ibm thinkpad that came off lease there are quite a few ibm resellers on ebay, you can get one well under 400$ w/ pIII, dvd/cdr, 128+mb, etc... plus they will be smaller than light weight then most dells

steer clear of HP laptops... i really lean toward toshiba or dell myself. IBM are also excellent laptops... to bad they quit making them. on a used laptop, be prepared to spend $100+ on a new battery!

You know IBM is still actually makeing laptops but under the name that they were bouight my. Lenovo is the company..exact same laptops, just a different brand. We just bought 2 so I'll have a better idea when they come in and I get to play with them.
