I'd love to see the movie....it's important as a Christian to know the alternatives people turn to for the truth. I don't support the theory behind it, but I'm sure it'll answer a few questions I have.

Christians can't even defend their faith after being publicly degraded without being attacked again . Killing 2 birds with 1 stone, huh!
Hulud, this is a prime example of where we(christians) would turn the other cheek. So, keep'em coming.

oh and to clear up georgiamans dumbness, the da vinci code states that mary was jesus' WIFE and bore his child. not his lover, as that implies jesus was knockin boots with the whore, it states that mary was his wife and recast as a whore by the early church to get rid of traces of Jesus' more mortal life. read the book ftw.

judging a movie isn't a sin, no matter what you call it
It looks interesting. I'm sure I'll be entertained. On a Christian perspective, the problem we find is that people will find this as truth, which goes against what we believe.
I don't feel like reading the book for answers...so...where did they get the idea that Jesus and her were together? If the painting of the last supper is it, then that's pretty weak. Might as well believe that dogs can play poker.
I'll watch it on dvd.

Everything that is not for him is against him
please shut your mouth with your nonsense talking.
everything that isnt for him is against him?
whos is him? jesus? God?
please, PLEASE keep your mouth shut, you just start controversy.
so you believe moral non-christians are against "him"?
why do you think there are missionaries?
to convert and save.
we're all "God's children", none are excluded, some may not be 'chosen' as it is stated in the Bible, but we're all the same.
so, please, i say again,
keep your mouth shut.
and Hulud, satan doesnt only exist if we believe IN him.
we believe in God and we take the Bible as facts.
Satan exists, at least thats what we christians will think, because there is hell. (assuming satan = devil = lucifer)
and Cherry kool aid,
how does that apply to all christians?
noone wants to read a book of 500+ pages or however many it has.
just like non-christians doesnt want to read the bible containing 1500+ pgs.
do you want to read the bible and talk about everything?
WOULD you read the entire bible to discuss something that wouldnt matter in a few days?
i'm 99% sure you're saying, "no", why? because its rediculous.
we all take what we see/hear and apply it to our own belief.
christians are humans as well, we take whatever we see and we apply it agaisnt or for what we believe.
non-christians do the same, they would hear something from a random person on the radio and think/agree if what they heard sounds reasonable.
why? because we're all human and are lazy and stereotypical by default.
and finally, its JUST a movie.
who gives a damn what it says? Sure, the shallow minded will probably take it seriously.
and of course, controversial things tend to gather people's attention moreso than a movie about noah building an ark and living on water for #of days.
damn this is a long post..

I doubt "god" approves of 99% of the things we do as individuals as well as a society. I also doubt this one movie is going to condemn us considering how many people have DIED in the name of religion... Genocide... war... and so on.
I could give a shit less what people believe... Just dont go trying to present it as fact... As far as I'm concerned... Until i see a confirmation of what is told in the bible or any religious book for that matter... sources or other evidence... They have as much validity to me as the fictional book/movie in question.

of course, to a non-christian, the bible is a meaningless book of fictional stories that cannot be explained.
to a christian, its what we believe, as it is the scripture.
its just that you guys believe facts and we believe with faith.

babowc, ive read the bible. at least the parts i codone and discuss. and maybe if the author of this thread took some of the time out of his busy day saving and converting the non chosen ones to learn how to read and explore the book, hed understand what it was about. the reason i say read it is this:
i can ask anyone what the bible is about. i wont know what it really says til i read it first hand. secondhand, and personal paraphrasing is nothing more than gossip, and gossip is for little girls. and hopefully yall arent little girls, but i question it because he(she?) is all bent out of shape over a damn movie. and get this, this isnt the first time this belief has been published, and not the first time a movie has been made, there are literally hundreds of renditions, ie. the last temptation of christ.
final summation, explore other literature than the bible and other medias of expression befor you start running your mouth. do ya research!

I thought it was a very good book. The movie prolly will not be near as good as the book as with most movies based on books.
The idea that this book\movie presents is very interesting. I dont really believe one way or another if there is any mega being or not. I am what most would call "on the fence" I love religious theroy such as this story.
IMO the book presents a more real sounding story\history than the bible does.

I didn't read the previous 3 pages so this is all I have to say(like it or not), I'm gonna watch it and ya know why? IT'S A MOVIE and I like to be entertained.
The Bible was written, edited and re-written by men. According to the Catholic Church, parts of it still haven't been translated. A new section of the "bible" was discovered and translated not too long ago that depicted Jesus "telling" Judas he would betray him. I'm not entirely sure, but doesn't that statement render Catholicism useless? Organized religion is the most misguided institution known to man. The Bible says not to judge and then says "he who isn't with me is against me" or whatever. What about the people in the middle who just don't give a shit? If Jesus existed and is who everyone else says he was, then that is great. Like the Bible states, all I have to do is ask for forgiveness and it will be granted. If the Bible is bullshit, then I get to be the guy on the other side of the fence saying "I told you so." The Bible is the perfect setup for dissappointment IMHO.

Frankly, this coudnt be farther from the truth. Fact is if the Bible isnt true there is NO downside for the believer. They will die a normal death and never know the difference.
If the Bible is true however the non believer who never sincerely repents is screwed. Therin lies the REAL setup for dissapointment.

Let me teach you all the first lesson in cramerolicism
If there is a god... it all comes down to morality... If you are a shitty person, you will get what you deserve. If you are a decent moral person, you are set.
There are so many religious sects and so many variations that picking one is just rediculous. You're telling me that "god" would say this at the gates?: "Oh sorry John, it appears you lived a clean and moral life under the teachings of buddism. The correct answer was christianity, so make way for charles manson who killed a shit load of people and turned to me after being jailed for his mis-doings... That elevator down the hallway on your right... Take that to the bottom floor... Charles, feel free to grab some refreshments from our juice bar and enjoy the many rollercoasters and water-rides at heaven land."

The whole concept "Jesus Saves" IMO is all jacked up to begin with. If "god" is so great why would you need to make sacrifices by killing something or someone to prove that you "love" him. (one of the 10 commandments "Thow shall not kill") That just seems a lil messed up to me.
Not choosing (or being in the middle) IS making a choice whether we think so or not.

So you're telling me that the bible has had no effect on how you've lived your life to date and if it turned up false you wouldn't want to go back and change things? My problem with the Bible is that it DOESN'T give you a choice. "He who isn't with me is against me...and going to spend eternity in hell or some jazz." Repent sinners for you do not know the whole truth and will spend an eternity in hell because your Christian brothers were a little slow with the translation. That IMHO is a crock o shit. What about those that came before Christ and his word? what about those that don't want any part of it. If the Bible is law, then it should only apply to it's believers.

Lirl. Jesus may be real. Was he who he says he was? I don't think so. Maybe he'll come back some day.
On a more interesting note. I watched a thing on the History channel a few weeks back that was about lucifer and the end of days and shit. Scholars say that Satan will be a loved guy. Hero to some. He will bring the warring states to piece for 3 years before he orders there destruction. This got me to thinking. You'd have to be pretty influential to get that kind of backing. People would really have to love you. Then it hit me. "What about Jesus!?" Jesus founded a whole damn religion. Half the known world follows him. Everyone is anxiously awaiting his return. It's the perfect setup to kill everyone just like the Bible suggests. Anyone else follow?
As for you radical Christian bastards saying Harry Potter is "evil" and we should burn the books. I have a suggestion for you. Change Wizardry, witchcraft, and sorcery to "miracles" and Hoggwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry to "hoggwarts christian monastery". It's a damn book.

So you're telling me that the bible has had no effect on how you've lived your life to date and if it turned up false you wouldn't want to go back and change things?
Your question seems based of the false notion that the Bible is some harsh requirement and that one would never follow its priciples except to get eternal life. That couldnt be farther from the truth. The principles of the Bible ONLY benefit the believer and follower of such. I have never met a person who was living up to the principles of Scripture who was miserable. There is only happiness and inner peace from doing so. There is no downside to a personal relationship with ones Creator. People who live their life in harmony with God die with a smile on their face.
My problem with the Bible is that it DOESN'T give you a choice. "He who isn't with me is against me...and going to spend eternity in hell or some jazz." If you truly want NO choice go with evolution. We were either created by God or we evolved. If we evolved there is TRULY NO CHOICE but to become extinct with the rest of the human race. No way around that. Its inevitable.
What we currently know about the deterioration of the earth would clearly tell the observer our form of life (human) WILL NOT be sustained here much longer. If you want to have some crazy wild faith that man can save himself go ahead be my guest. Its not possible. With evolution extinction is your ONLY choice.
God does give you choice. If we truly had no individual choice He may have already struck you (and I) dead for disobedience. You can choose to follow the principles of God and His will or follow your own will. You can do whatever you want, people do so everyday. The thing that is bothering them is the ACCOUNTIBILITY. Fact is every choice has its CONSEQUENCES. There is no way to make choices without the consequences of those choices. People WISH they could do whatever they wish to whomever they wish without any consequenses but that shall never be. People can hope for that all they want and it will never happen.
If you choose to follow God by living up to all the light he gives you, whether that be a little or a lot, you have the promise of eternal life. If you choose to follow your own will you have the promise of eternal death. All shall be judged.
Eternal burning torment is a figment of mans imagination. That is not a Biblical teaching. Make no mistake, there is anguish, disapointment, and punishment but the ultimate consequence for following ones own selfish desires is death, not eternal life in burning firery torment.
Also, your characterization of "Christian brothers were a little slow with the translation" being put to a firery death isnt at all what the Bible teaches although perhaps that may or may not be what you were taught. God is the only perfect judge. Every person judged in His court will get EXACTLY what they deserve. He is not willing that any should perish, He reaches out to everyone, many times in ways unique to that person. People either accept Him or do not. No one will fall short based on their knowlege. It's purposefully failing to live up TO the knowlege they DO have that will condemn them.
There is no such thing as "those that came before Christ and his word"
Christ and His Word are eternal. They have always been. He is OUR Creator.
There is no way to NOT have part of something you were created into. That isnt a choice ANYONE has. Fact is without God you wouldnt exist or be alive nor would you ever come to be. Same for all of us. We can either acknowlege our Creator, which seems to be the smart thing to do given the evidence around us, or not. Those are the choices we have.
There is NO way to avoid accountibility. And that is the real issue here.

Do not mistake those who would censor what others (outside their own children/family) read, see, or watch, with true Biblical Christians.
Also, except in name only, there is no such thing as a "christian monastery".
The very principles of monastery life contradict the Word of God and are in opposition to it. ;)

You should go write a book....

ok i just got done reading all yalls crazy bs. i have read the book and i am a strong believer in christ. guess what guys i loved the book, i thought it brought up a differnt way to view things i dont believe them, but it was kool to see a different side. the author of the book said the book is fiction and that though some of the ideas have been around for a long time that the are just theories and alot of the stuff he just made up him self. i personally can't wait untill the movie comes out to see if it lives up to the book. ohh and i do not like people critcizing what other people believe, its just not nice

I just like aguring with people....and this is a subject that will get people to give some good debate most of the time.
I think the only time I think it is ok for critizing what someone else believe is if it has to do with tom cruise and his religion if you even want to call it that and/or something having to do with mass sucide.
If you truly want NO choice go with evolution.

As for the Christ being eternal and everything. What about those that came before the bible and never learned about god?

The Bible puts it this way...
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
As I stated earlier, there never has been anyone who came before God or His Word, both are eternal. The decendants of Adam & Eve knew of Creation and of God same as we do, more so perhaps as they lived closer to Creation.
As for those who may have existed on earth without knowing anything of God, lets face it, with regard to specific people we're just speculating here, a somewhat dangerous practice. We cannot judge ones worthiness of eternal life. Man looks on the outward. God looks upon the heart. He judges the intentions of the heart. He knows exactly what we will choose given any situation. He is the only righteous Judge. He CAN judge someones worthiness. Given that, all will be judged accurately and get exactly what reward they deserve.
As to the topic in this thread, the davinci code, as I stated earlier, its a fictional book...should make a good fictional movie. It doesnt bother me. The "religious" groups rising up against it are misguided in my opinion. Movies are entertainment, not a source of truth. People looking to movies to provide unvarnished truth are looking in the wrong place. ;)

Given some of his insane comments, it would seem that Mr. Cruise's elevator no longer stops at all the floors. Brainwashing has a way of doing that to people though.

I give props to my man Xan....
btw, didn't Dan Brown still the idea from some other guys way back in the earlier days? I haven't done my research but I know it's not an original concept for sure though. Ever since Jesus came along and started offending people with the truth, there's been an ongoing attempt to strip Him of his divinity and holiness....ca-razy I tell ya.
Anywho, it's late...IM OUT!!
