Food for thought: Why do you observe Easter?
Christians obviously have a reason to. They believe that Christ rose from the dead.
But what about other religions/atheists? Many go out to lunch/dinner, or observe it as a holiday. Why? What are you recognizing then? Is it a belief that the Easter bunny is real and will bring you eggs (should it be an Easter chicken?)? After all, you can't see the Easter bunny, so that would require father in the unobserved....
Disclaimer: I am saying this in humor, not to rile anyone up.... :p

well we do live in a christian society, its kinda hard not to observe in some form or fashion... it'd be like me telling my Boss... I'M SORRY I DON'T WANT GOOD FRIDAY OFF I DON'T BELIVE IN ALL OF THIS SHIT  Not going to happen.
When i have children i'm sure we will do the easter bunny thing as well... ya kinda of a weak holiday, but i will never rob my children of their imagination. I know christians who straight up tell there children there is no Easter Bunny/Santa Claus b/c they want them to know the religious aspect of the holidays.... i'm sorry but thats just wrong in my eyes. :goodjob:

Interestingly enough, if any were REALLY observing the resurection of Christ that would require an observation of the actual date instead of a date set by the pope, and just like your birthday it wouldnt fall on sunday every year....but alas, as we discussued in another thread easter isnt about any of that. ;)
Nevertheless, have a great chocolate egg bunny eatin' day. :)

Interesting.... LOL So you don't believe in the holidays but still want the days off.... LOL ... isn't it kind of "weird"?
It also only seems to happen with Christian Holidays, i.e. I don't see people fighting to take Yom Kippur off, but oh they want their Christmas off !! Why not create a caracter for Yom Kippur too, so that you can have it off too? i.e. the Kippur Chocolate Egg Bunny or something? Or Santa Kippur? lol.
BTW you know that some companies have the "option" for you to take it off, i.e. they give you the option to take an off day on Good Friday, or you can apply it towards another holiday (Rosh Hashannah, Yom Kippur), or you can use it as an extra vacation day if you are not religious at all.....

How is that wrong? It is like telling children that 4th of July is Fireworks and BBQ day instead of explaining the real reason behind the observance of it, Independece Day.

True! But a lot of people do not know the actual date, or won't bother to look it up, so it is easier to just pick a date every year and leave it at that... same with Christmas etc.
In any case, "Happy Observance of Easter, even though it is not the actual date, but it is the thought that count - day" :)

I truely do love how you want to jump on my dick again... its cool though b/c you obviously care enough to http://forums.importatlanta.com/images/smilies/goodjob.gif
It doesn't matter the fucking holiday i got MLK off too, do you think i was down town in a parade supporting that either... umm NO. No one is going to complain w/ days off, the point is... we all live in a christian society we can't get around the fact its going to happen whether we like it or not.
Oh by the way i work for a privately owned company and there is not way i could swap holidays b/c of religious reasons. My boss would tell me to take vacation/personal day.

Now Paul, you're my boy and all.......but in this thread you recognize that you live in a "christian society" where you have to get used to certain things(and obviously use some of the perks of that to your favor)......yet in the other thread you were all up in arms because someone mentioned prayer to you and your mother at lunch........ ;)
Pick a side of the fence my brotha, can't have it one way today and another tomm on this.
You are very tolerant in a lot of things, but it does seem like anything that has to do with Christianity you tend to lose your thick skin rather quickly.
You're still my boy though. ;)

^ hold on... please explain to me what me having easter off from work has to do w/ my position on the fence? its not like i asked for it off but if i get it what am i supposed to do...? OH SORRY I'M NOT CHRISTIAN I NEED TO WORK ON FRIDAY. come the fuck on, you guys seriously make some dumb statements.
Whats next i can't use the american $$$ b/c it says "in god we trust".... you guys need to think sometimes before you post. maybe we should all be Jehova Witnesses and we won't have to worry about holidays :lmao:
by the way i have thick skin, you would like to think it bothered me the other day, but if you read what i posted i asked a question of the point... what would be like me walking up to complete strangers and telling them what i had for breakfast.... what is the point?

Paul, I think this is the point he's trying to make, not what you think about the holiday.

OH SORRY I'M NOT CHRISTIAN I NEED TO WORK ON FRIDAY. come the fuck on, you guys seriously make some dumb statements.
Now Paul, you know me better than that.
I put what I put in () because I wanted to make a point. My point was that in the other thread you were bothered by the fact that someone mentioned "prayer" to you unsolicited, yet here you readily acknowledge you and I and everyone else live in a "Christian society" and we have "expect certain things"......so my point was......why would you be so upset about the waiter's mention of prayer if you yourself KNOW this is a "Christian society"????
That's what I meant by riding the fence. You shouldn't acknowledge that you live in a "Christian society" and then complain that someone mentions anything that has to do with Christianity. I wasn't trying to say the waiter was right nor wrong. My issue has nothing to do with him directly, just that you've mentioned many times before that this world is something but then you don't like when they act exactly as they are pre-dispositioned to. Wouldn't that be more like common sense?
If I said that we lived in a heathenistic world full of miscreants and devils, yet was surprised to see someone did something bad right in front of me.......wouldn't you say I was out of touch with reality or riding the fence? ;)
Whats next i can't use the american $$$ b/c it says "in god we trust".... you guys need to think sometimes before you post. maybe we should all be Jehova Witnesses and we won't have to worry about holidays :lmao:
I don't blame you for taking whatever days off they give you. I just think it's ironic, and it is considering your stance on this. Same as any white supremacists that marched in protest and was beside themselves when MLK day was petioned to become a National Holiday, yet they stay at home just like everyone else now. It's ironic is all. I'm not passing judgement, I'm merely stating something. In all honesty, you know I can take any day I want off so this "holiday" thing doesn't affect me in the least, but if it did I probably would take any "holiday" given to me too. So I understand. But it doesn't change the fact that it's ironic. ;)
As for the thick skin comment.....you are usually very tolerant of lots of things (except religion it seems). There are many times where you have much thicker skin than I do, by far. You know that. But for some reason, religion (with Christianity being a focal point it seems) gets under yours much faster than anything else. That's why I made the comment I made. Again, not passing judgement, just an observation.

And why not? I know of plenty of people who chose to work on Christmas, Memorial Day etc. while making time and a half or even triple pay.

Not quite, Hulud.
The point I was trying to make is that either way, hypothetically, he has nothing to lose. If he chose to take the day off, then he gets to stay home and get paid anyway for that day. If he choses to work, I would assume that since it is a "holiday" he would get double or triple pay. :)
Why not stand up for what you do not believe in, work the day, and get paid double anyway, especially since it is not a government mandated holiday so to speak. It is not like Thanksgiving or Christmas, where the government shuts down their offices, banks close and mailman don't deliver mail.
Religion is only convenient when it benefits one, that is the point.. :)

Again sir you are wrong... please let me know how many normal office enviroments work on Christmas? ummm none. Does McDonalds stay open for the non christians on Xmas... ummm no.
My question is what is the point you are trying to make... really? If your boss came in and said ok i'm closing the business down for a Jewish holiday on friday,,,, um are you now Jewish b/c you have it off? No so just b/c you comply w/ the guy who signs your check doesn't mean you are sitting on the fence. Seriously this is pretty dumb to be discussing.
