Ive always wanted to be in the marines. I looked into it after high school then 9/11 came and my parent strongly discouraged me. Well here lately ive been thinking about joining. Im looking into more special forces type stuff. Like being a sniper. Just want a little insight to what its actually like in the corp. thanks for all the help.

Yeah, there was already one of these threads.

Basically, it doesnt matter what we say or tell you. Do you want to do it? Do you think you will be happy with your 4yr or 6yr committment? Will you be okay with being deployed overseas alot?

Marine's have Force Recon, which is their little SF high speed bunch.

a Marine scout sniper has one of the highest dropout rates....well, sniper school in general is pretty f'in hard....

Just sit down and make a list of pro's and con's it can do for you, and then make your choice.

IM in the air force, and from what i have noticed from marines when i was deployed

there are 3 people that join the marines
1. severely mislead people
2. severely mental people
3. People that didnt have hte asvab score for the Air force

and it is the truth, i have talked to HUNDREDS of marines, and 95% of them say the same thing
SHoulda gone air force

oh yeah most marines are deplopyed ayear, back 4-6 months, and deployed again

Thats the only question he asked...he didnt ask if he should join or not. He's just looking for more info about it.

guess i didnt answer his question

From everything i saw in Africa (a very relaxed place)
Every day in uniform all day (we could be in civilian clothes when we were off work)
Extremely strict regiment and schedules all day
Crazy training even while deployed (like yearly stuff)
Crazy PT programs
Lotsa body armour, adn heavy shit to cary....= sweating, discomfort, and i dont get paid enough to do that

unless your just a fanatic about the core, dont join you will hate it

just goto www.marines.com and read up as much as you can, on jobs, requirements and such. That will be the most informative site you will read up on. I'd also say to check out the other branches too...just to compare.

JDM, I'd hate to say it because it sucks to stereotype them.....but there is some truth to what he said. But, I do know plenty of guys who have scored perfect scores on the asvab and became good marines, but they are borderline your other two options.

Also, Air Force has such strict requirements for pilots, like 20/20 vision no exceptions....Marines is the only branch that will give guys with not 20/20 to become pilots.

liar, you can fly Heavies, and helos with glasses

and its not a stereotype, liek i said, its what i have experienced with MANY people
and unless he has a 4 yr degree in like 7 or 8 specific fields, hes not gonna be an officer to think about it anyways

I'm sorry, but I do not want to be a cargo pilot, or a helo pilot....the glory goes with Figther Pilots.

fuck pilots in general, and do yuo have the degree to be able to do it?

Besides my motto is
It takes a college degree to break them
a high school diploma to keep them flying.

I'm Army, and I have no passion about flying.... It's more fun to jump out of them. I'm happy with my mos.

I'd be all like, boy....did you check everything? Better go ahead and check everything again, just to be sure.

Have you ever seen a jumper in tow? that's gotta be the scariest shit to go through.

Thanks for all the input guys. I took the army test out of high school and scored really high so im not worried about the test. I also read the entire marine website. I really want to the only reson i havent yet is my parents are against it but i feel like its something i need to do.

I really want to the only reson i havent yet is my parents are against it but i feel like its something i need to do.You can't have them govern you forever. If this is the step that you feel is right for you, then man up and do it. You'll never be the person that you want to be if you let others run your life for you.

Best of luck. :)

i don't know about the marines. but a good friend of mine is in the army stationed over in germany and iraq.

i about joined but i backed out at the last minute and decided to go to college to become a paramedic.

but its really just a choice within yourself....i can tell you that during basic training, most of it is mental training....my brother told me all about it.

just remember, they don tgive you time off to go to school (from teh people ive talked to )in the army or marines. You are always training etc. In the Air Force, you can have your schedule changed around so you can go to school. The AF wants to make sure you get your schooling since you get 100% tuition assistance right now. Not to mention the AF treats its people, and their familes much better believe me man
