I've seen it done, curious to know what you guys think. Personally I'd love to give it a shot. Not any time soon, but I'm gonna look into it.

Oh god.... Make this easier on yourself get a 302 because the distributor is in a better place. Alot of yota guys swap 350s in and and you have to cut the firewall. So get the 302, (it may be ford) but its actrully an easier swap. But if it was me I would cut the frame and extend it maybe a 8-10 inches and drop a 455 big block, munchie 4 spd in that sucker. And just cut the hood up. But then again... Im a redneck and thats what I do lol

Don't do it. It throws the weight balance off....... And it's disgusting to have an American engine in a Japanese car. Get an sr20det. They can have 800 hp and still be reliable.

^^i agree. i've seen the v8 conversion on some 300zx's and to me, it's just not meant to be. it kinda defeats the purpose of having a japanese car.

V8's in old z's are sick.
And by the way, no 800 hp sr20 is reliable.
What the fuck are you noobs thinking?
The weight balance isnt thrown off very much considering, you can have the car corner weighted with a nice suspension setup and you'll be fine.
But for the money you can just swap in a nicer motor that bolts up.

if you threw in an LS1, well, with the proper mounting, then the weight balance would be better than that with an SR + the LS1 weighs less than the SR.
YES IT DOES, I WEIGHED THE 2 ON THE SAME DAMN SCALE!

Nissans typically do... but that's kool that your VR4 does. I just found 1 (gallant vr4) in Jonesboro... gonna ask the guy if it's for sale.

His car is sick! Check out his Ducati 748 shifter kart. As for the V8 question, I think it is a great idea.

don't do it, the JDM fanboys won't be happy... a domestic engine in a Japanese car will surely throw off the balance of the car, even though the engine itself doesn't weigh more.

You can build a mild 350 with 325hp/400 ft.lbs for $1500. That is with a very mild cam and a vacuum secondary carb (We were looking into building a motor for my friends '78 Buick Regal). In such a light car, you'd be stupid fast with 16MPGcity/19MPGhighway with a TH-350 tranny behind it. If it is not DD you could go alot more extreme with the motor. That one we just panned out to be a cheap, torquey motor with good mileage for a daily. Besides, you could always go SBC-TT. :D JDM is getting wore thin real quick in my mind. It is just the current bandwagon. Do what you want with your money. I personaly think you'd have more fun with the SBC 240. I'd be faster than all these SR20DETT cars running around and it'd be different. Also, I don't think you'd care about weight distribution if you would think about this swap.
Power to weight ratio > weight distribution ;)

You just gotta build right. The cam I was talking about was very mild and described for a daily or bracket car. With vacuum secondaries, you just gotta keep out of the pedal to keep from opening the secondaries. I get 16/18 out of my 305 all day if I drive nice. If I dont, 13/15. Depends on how throttle happy you are.
EDIT I was also assuming he used 2.83s or 3.08s. Anything shorter and I'd be afraid of breaking out the rear-end real easy 'cause of the weight of the car.

you gotta take that rear end ratio into effect to cause if your talking about a 10bolt say with 3.73??'s itll be quick but barely tap the gas and youll be doing like 60 turning hell of some rpm

lol, still though. that cam would have to be small as hell to get that. my cousin has a fuel injected 350 in his s10 and never gets on it and barely squeeks out 12/13 and thats only with 3.42's

My dad built a mileage motor for towing a boat with his friend's truck. It had gobs of torque and got 18 hwy with a TH-350 and the boat attached. When I get the chance, i'll upload some print screens from Dyno2000 and show y'all the cam. I'm just not on the right computer now.

383 stroker, can build one for aroun 2.5k, drop it into a old Z, boost it for anothe 2.5, and have yourself a good ole time. Also weren't there a couple of LS1 swapped drift cars at this years D1 event? Yeah!
