**This is not a sale thread, I simply need EVERYONES input...good and bad**

Ok, so I have a question that I know has been on everyone’s mind since there has been alot of auto thefts going on. Now that there is a section specifically for stolen cars/parts, would most of you consider spending the money on a GPS system? I know there are alot of people who spend lots of money on their cars but do not get the insurance to cover the cost of all the aftermarket parts. Limited Police equipped units have been around for years, what if you could take a GPS to the next level for instance.....

- Text messaging to your cell phone if your car alarm was violated?
- Track the vehicle your self through the Internet or on the phone with a represenitive?
- Send command to the starter circuit to disable the starter so the vehicle may not be started again?
- The ability to recover the vehicle before its stripped...not the next day on the side of the road in just a shell form because nothing notified you the car was stolen.

If there were a unit with no monthly fees, no activation fee and half the price of a "police dependant unit", would you consider it?

Thank you in advance

just carry a baseball bat. I took a friend to the Pendegrass Flea Market up here to buy a huge bong. Went inside for like 2 min, came out, and this OLD-ASS hispanic dude was trying to take out my door speakers! He already had the Head unit on the ground, quick bastard. My I.C.E. was cheap as fuck and came with the car when I bought it, but I walked up behind him and grabbed my bat from the back seat, hit the fucker in the head and had the cops deal with him after that! He ended up being illegal, so if I wanted to press charges, we had to do a SHIT load of paper work, I just told them to call Immigration Services!

YOU GOT DEPORTED MOFO. WHO OWNS WHO?

I am not in retail, so as an estimate I would say ballpark...under $700 including professional installation, but I would assume it depends from shop to shop.

A helping question would be: What is the normal cost of a GPS system?

PM me for info on group buy ;) I'm working on the $500 range if possible, plus installation http://www.virtualtrac.com/

You can locate your vehicle with satellite image overlays on maps (just like maps.google.com) and access it anywhere with internet....ie wifi or cell phone. With the cellular package you can also enable it to alert you if the vehicle moves between set times, say for example if it moves between 10pm and 8am (while sleeping) it can call your phone and tell you.

Configurable Features:
* Geo-fence - define a geographic boundary around your vehicle, which if violated, you will be alerted
* Maximum Speed Exceeded - Alert is sent when the maximum speed is exceeded for a set period of time. Both
speed and time variables are defined by the owner.

Reporting Features:
* Vehicle Location Request - Receive current location, speed and heading.
* Vehicle Location History Request - Access historical location and event history.
* Top Speed of the Day - The fastest speed of the current day. Fastest speed resets after midnight.
* Low battery notification - the Millennium Plus unit will alert you if your vehicle's battery dips below 10.5 volts (or any
voltage you define)
* Mileage notification - alerts you every 3,000 miles traveled (for oil changes), or any mileage you define)
* Continuous on/off reporting (great for fleet managers)
* Archived history is available on the Millennium Plus website for up to three months.

Remote Functions:
* Door Lock/Unlock - Electronic device installed in the vehicle to unlock doors, turn on lights, sound the horn or
control any electrical device on board the vehicle.
* Starter Interrupt - Allows the owner to remotely enable/disable the starter when the ignition is not engaged
(stop teen drivers from misbehaving, or recoup stolen vehicles).
* Power management - Controls the use and distribution of the vehicle's power.
* Battery backup - Millennium Plus contains its own back up battery so it's still useable, even if your vehicle is out of commission

Other Features:
* Compact size means Millennium Plus is easily hidden
* Over 98% US coverage and virtually all of Mexico and Canada
* May provide an additional insurance discount

I have seen them well over $1000 and had monthly fees. The object is to see how interested people would be in a cost effective system with more features then just "track".

Put this into play, you spend $20,000 on body, motor and ice for your car....and bought a car alarm to protect it all. Would a GPS unit make a difference considering it goes above and beyond a car alarm?

No problem Lea Anne.

Speedminded, this is simply an excersise to get input on a product that would be useful for any car builder who wants added protection. I have known Lea Anne for a very long time...hell she lives like 10 miles from me for that matter. I just want to know what everyone thinks about it. Is it practical or not? That is the ultimate question.
